Ferndale is a dairy cowtown. More dairy cows than people! Lots of hay to be rolled or baled. Here are some images of the stuff, representational and abstract. I especially like the white wrap when it loosens in the wind and behaves like scarves.

SDQ with 18-200 + variable ND, 30/1.4 on the last hay roll.

Wow lots of great photos in this thread. I'm able to save jpg and raw monochrome images with my dp2m, but so far have only been using the jpgs, with sharpness, and contrast at -.2

Jamie—Other resemblances have been proposed in addition to earthmallows—mozzarella wheels, and toilet paper rolls. I just love how brilliant they are in the light here.

Yes my immediate thought was giant bocconcini balls. Which given that it is actually hay (which could one day become bocconcini with a bit of help from a cow's digestive tract and its mammary system) is rather ironic.

Nice shots Robert but had to smile.
I handle them every day but never think about photographing them :)
Here in the UK though we tend to use black wrapping.
The white looks very photogenic .

DP3M at Lighthouse Ranch, on a high bluff over the Pacific south of Humboldt Bay. I earned some tick bites on this shoot.
