Hi everyone,

near my working place there was an old catholic church demolished a few month ago. I took some pictures from time to time to document the ongoing work. I show you some pictures here, much more can be found on my blog http://www.pixelbulimie.de

WWII gunnery observation room, North Head, Sydney Harbour National Park. The observation room controlled batteries of large naval guns aimed seawards to protect the approaches to Sydney Harbour. They saw action during the Japanese attack on Sydney Harbour on 29/30 May, 1942, during which Japanese midget submarines successfully penetrated harbour defences and launched a torpedo attack.

The view is east over the ocean from a height of approx 200'. The dark patches are cloud shadows on the ocean.

This is one of the naval gun emplacements on North Head, controlled by the observation room above. Beneath the emplacement are tunnels where munitions were stored and lift shafts to raise the rounds to the gun.
