Voigtländer 40mm f2.8 Heliar lens (VM & LTM) - Images

Is anyone using the black version on an m10? I read in many reviews that it has issues with the camera, it doesn't recognize it has a lens attached due to the black coating on the lens base. I prefer to get the black version, but this sounds like an issue since I want to use it on an m10. I thought about getting the m39 version and buying an adapter, but I am not able to find any adapter with good reviews.
Light Lens Lab has LTM adapters that work with the M10 6-bit code sensor. Light Lens Lab LTM-M Mount Adapter (28mm/90mm Framelines) NEW

What are owners of this lens using for filters? 34mm is rather uncommon especially for black and white filters...

Ah, yes, well...I wish I could help. Being a long-intended-but-never-got-round-to-it B&W shooter, I don't have many colour filters of any kind.

I also had a Marumi UV. I ordered an orange through
& a yellow directly from Heliopan

Looks like Heliopan is the only modern option available here, via special order.

Perhaps a step ring to a filter size you have in common with other lenses - 43, 46, 49 or 52mm?

Yes that's what I've been looking at, the lens is so tiny so maybe 34 --> 40.5 as I have filters in that size already.

The lens is very compact (which is its charm) so adding a big filter via step-up ring will make it very awkward to reach the aperture control ring.

The SRB filters are made to order, are shipped quickly and are good quality.
Because of the small size the filters are inexpensive, so it's not a big deal financially.

Thanks for the SRB link although postage to the US is nearly the same as the filter cost.:)

After extensive search for the past week:

A set of 3 Heliopan filters is over $150...gulp...nearly 40% of the used price of the lens...only the UV in stock (dark red, light yellow, UV), otherwise 4-6 week lead time. And I don't want dark red, rather have orange...

34 --> 39 Heliopan step rings are in stock at B&H. But I have no 39mm filters. :) 39 wouldn't overwhelm the tiny lens.

34 --> 40.5 Heliopan step ring is special order, I have plenty of filters in that size...UV, yellow, orange.

There are readily available inexpensive off-brand step rings of 34 --> 37, 34 --> 43, etc. but no one appears to make a 34 --> 40.5 except for Heliopan, with delivery 2-4 weeks out...

Here's a very inexpensive 34 mm yellow ships from Canada 34mm Hanimex Y2 YELLOW Contrast Filter - Classic Style - NEW 18208022373 | eBay

As for the SRB, you're right the shipping is almost as much as the filter but the total cost is approx $36..... less than any B&W or Heliopan.

Yes I've seen a few vintage 70s-80s filters on ebay...think I'm leaning to the 40.5mm step ring as I have several modern filters in that size (i.e., multi coated.) Seems like that is the best match for a modern aspherical lens.

A 40.5 filter fits just inside the hood. So a 34 —> 40.5 step ring, being a smidge smaller diameter than the hood, shouldn’t interfere with the handling IMG_5818.jpeg
