So, today I left the house in a rush and left my cell phone in my
apartment. While I was at work, someone broke in to my apartment and
stole all of my digital gear. Nikon D2x and D2Hs. A 17-55mm G DX ED
AFS, a 14mm f/3.5 Sigma AF and my just purchased for a song and cleaned
24mm f/2.8 AIS. Also stolen was my very recently invested-in cell phone.

My housemate had a few rings stolen, earrings, a Canon IVSB with
Jupiter-12 and a Pentax Spotmatic F with 50mm f/1.4 SMC Takumar.

This day was a headache at my crappy retail job and utter heartache
when I got back to my apartment. My ability to make more than half of
my income is gone and I was waiting until my next paycheck to insure my
gear with a new partner company through my auto insurance company.

A police report was filed and the investigative unit came and lifted what they could of prints. My cell phone was also tracked too and this is all under investigation.

To all those in the greater NYC/Philly area, this corridor is rife with
gear being fenced back and forth between the cities. If, by chance, you
happen to notice a rather rare D2Hs (hard to come by since people kept
them) let me know and I'll alert the authorities. I have all serial
numbers of everything that is missing except that awesome *new* 24mm.

One of these days my sh**ty life might turn around.

Thanks all.

Sorry to hear about your loss and sending along a good thought for a miracle that the police have a big break and catch the thieves along with getting your gear back.

A group of us in my neighborhood recently got together and started a block watch after we experienced an increase in car prowling, delivery packages being stolen, along with a few houses getting broken into during the day time with people at home.

Hopefully we can make some sort of impact.

My apologies Phil, nothing is worse than losing your gear. Especially if the gear is your livelihood. Let's hope they get the scumbags!

Gone in a heartbeat

Gone in a heartbeat

I wasn't making a living on my stuff but having it all stolen in a home burglary hurt plenty.Took another five years before I started a new kit after using my Daughters point n shoot

I hope your stuff turns up soon

sorry to read about the theft :( I remember reading you added recently either of the Nikon bodies? maybe phone has some tracking tech/remote disabling available?

Damn Phil, you are on an unlucky streak....sorry to hear this. Where are you at in JC? Check out some of those pawn shops on Newark Ave.

Sorry to hear Phil, I know it doesn't make the situation better, but if that were to happen to me here in Canada, the police would just take the serial numbers and hope that the equipment shows up on their front door. They don't investigate theft unless you're rich or powerful. I've had clients who had the only things they owned stolen and police just say "there's nothing we can do". Good luck. We've heard success stories on here before of recovered gear. I hope this will be one of them.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. It is gut wrenching to find out that someone was on your property and to have lost the hard earned camera gear in particular since you did not have insurance.
I lost a complete Hasselblad kit out of my car 7 years ago but had it covered by insurance so had a new kit put together a few months later.
Start looking at the big auction site, i spotted my kit there 3 weeks after it was stolen but made the mistake contacting seller before contacting the police. It was sold after one day to the first and only bidder at the time for 1,000$. Value was about 4,500$.

Oh man that sucks! I lost some gear once by my own fault and I can only imagine how much is sucks when someone else steals it. I'm looking for stuff on CL so i'll keep an eye out.

Good luck

Phil,
Sorry to hear about your equipment, That really stinks. Did you check a few
of the shops in your area that resells stuff or I heard a lot of story's of people
reselling on ebay.

Range

Thanks to all here for your kind words.
I'll check the pawn shops tomorrow. Today if I have enough time after taking care of some things.
I still have my dear film rangefinders though. That is good for me and seeing as my M4 is so sentimental, it's good for the health and welfare of those around me who may have seen me come and go to facilitate the burglary. (Hyperbole)

Again, many thanks.

I take a quick look every day at the NYC and surrounding NY, NJ, CT Craigslist photo/video listings and will look for your items.

Yeah, it is the kicker of customization that really sucks. I scored a few brilliant deals on the DK17M viewfinder and the split-prism focusing screen for the D2Hs. It was rapidly becoming my favorite digital camera and I was looking forward to doing some IR photography with it too. It's going to be hard to find that very kit combination again without finding my exact camera.
We'll see what happens though.
