I completely agree that a tighter crop and even a vertical format would work very well. I considered it but chose this format in order to try something a bit unconventional by seeking to emphasize the various diagonal elements in the image -- the long shadow, her legs, the black cloth, and her hair. I'm still not sure it works haha. But thanks for your suggestion. Much appreciated!

Thanks Deardorff! We usually avoid dappled light, at least on faces, but decided to incorporate it into the photo. My sweet young friend, who's a dog groomer by profession, was enjoying trying out new poses.
