Thank you Don, I was hoping for this kind of contribution, to slowly get a set of info that will allow me to pinpoint the pics.

Wouter, I believe this would have been taken either in Sumatra, Kalimantan or Sulawesi. Not in Java or Bali. As a frequent traveler and long-time photo fanatic in Indonesia, with a particular interest in Indies images and history, I am aware that the wagon type in this image points to it having been taken in the above places. That is really all I can tell you about the collection so far, I hope it will help you in some small way.

Thanks Mlehrman. These photographs display such innocence on the verge of what would become one of the most cruel episodes in history, both in Asia as in Europe. A peek into a lost world with many 19th century values still going strong.

Yes Richard, the photographer must have been an intimate or member of the family. But the technical quality of the photographs suggests and advanced photographer. If I recall well, this pics was scanned off a 9x12 glass negative.
