Ted, I am not sure but I think that SP simply means Special Performance. It is a macro lens and mine is an Adaptall Mount so it can be used on many different cameras with the proper adapter. I used a Vivitar 285HV flash on a handmade bracket that mounted the flash about 6 inches above the front of the lens and angled it down so light flooded from above.
