Shooting Eastman (Double-X) 5222 in the Leica

Hair ties? Maybe I need one of those…🤷🏼‍♂️
It is my own top secret photographic invention, I shot a lot of wasted frames of the inside of the camera bag :/ :/ :/

Available at grocery and convenience stores everywhere LOL

By the way it works best with TomA Softies.

Ah yes, the ol' TomA "blank frame" Softie. I'm down to one these days which stays on my sentimental Leica that doesn't leave the house. I lost one a couple years ago and I went back over where I had walked for maybe an hour or so. Couldn't find it but I sure as hell wanted to. Talk about a bummer.

I like that hair tie trick.

This photo tickles all my loves of surreal interaction, the glorious imperfection of film, and has a perfect sense of space and balance.
Bravo!! :D

I haven't shot XX in years. Maybe I'll go scrape some up somewhere...

thank you!

No, thank you!

Hmm… I must admit that I can’t imagine how your ingenious hair tie solution works, but then I have never used a “softie”!🤷🏼‍♂️

What does that look like?🙂

Hmm. I tried the soft release button many times, found I was steadier without it, and then the regular shutter release guard protects the camera from being fired accidentally in my bag. Horses for courses. ;)

The Highs and Lows of Eastman 5222 Double X.

Just finished a roll of XX yesterday and developed it with Ilford DD-X. So I am working on some high-key and low-key images just to get a better feel of shooting this interesting film.

First is a high-key image of my Martin with the early morning light providing a bit of mystery. The M2 is working on a different project but maybe soon, I will have a better understanding of how to shoot XX for my particular uses and it too will be used to explore XX.😎

In our garage, there are many pieces of automotive memorabilia. Many more items are still packed away.

My MG history goes back decades and I have so many memories of those cars over the years. Hanging on our garage wall are “tin” signs that I collected during many mountain tours with the top down anticipating the next stop for antique hunting, brunch, or just a walk with a camera in hand.

MG forever!

Well, now, I think low light is where this film does well. 👍

Woolen Mammoth (way back in this thread) was a Master of shooting XX at EI 6400. Creates an interesting image. Myself I would not go above EI 640 with some semblance of shadow detail. But that gets you way up there in terms of "Cinema Verite" photographic interpretation, but using a still camera not Cinema. They uber pushed those bathroom fight scenes in "Casino Royale". Think -Gritty-.

Minoltaflex XX SRT Flash YG by Nokton48, on Flickr

This is the Minolta SRT Electroflash 1, hooked up to a Minolta Autocord. The Stovepipe is Hasselblad and works perfectly. It's FUN to use, I've been popping off shots, on Eastman XX 5222 120 film. Really enjoying using it, it carries easily and works without fuss. Good for incognito photography.

Summer is hear and the heat is on!😮

I hope everyone is having a good time and are enjoying the season outdoors, if possible.

The last week, I have been looking over my latest Eastman 5222 images and I really think the fun part for me will be shooting more Double X in low light situations.

Why the plastic fantastic F80?🙂

Because the M2 is busy with other film on different projects. Maybe soon I will get to use it with Double-X film.🙂

High speed lenses help in incandescent light. My 85mm F1.7 MC Rokkor light sucker is at the Spa right now. The 100mm F2 Olde Non-MC Rokkor looks lovely wide open with XX. It's basically replaced my RF 85mm F1.5 Canon for short tele work. Delicate olde beast was a gift from the Internet :)
