Actually the distant urban was the "rural area", even though it's crowded with tall buildings now, it is still "rural" to people live in Harbin city. The real urban area is behind where I stood. I was standing on a frozen river dividing the southern (old) and northern (new) districts.

10 years ago it was a plain view with village houses scattered here and there. Now it's just another featureless concrete forest. The new urban area lacks good education and are full of villagers who got rich over night by compensation money from government taking their village land to build tall building as seen in the photo. Lots of gambling and drug actions on going, which is sad.
