I recently bought a Leica M3, working well. Some dust in the viewfinder so I took off the top and blew it out. Almost all of the dust is gone, but there are three specks that I can't seem to dislodge.

One is on the lower right edge of the 50mm brightline. It is in focus, a small dot.

The other two are in the rangefinder window. One appears to be a bit fuzzy, as if it is out of focus (but it could just be translucent dust?). The other is a but crisper, more focused.

I have no interest in opening up the rangefinder unit or doing any disassembly beyond removing the cover. With that in mind, any suggestions on where to focus my blowing? Maybe a soft brush across a surface would dislodge one or more of these dots? I just have no idea where to look, what surfaces are involved, in the brightline and rangefinder patch beyond the obvious ones on the outside of the unit.

Any direction much appreciated. Again, since everything is aligned and accurate, I have no interest in taking things apart, so if I just have a few specks that's life.

If the dust spot is at the frameline and in focus, it could be on the frameline mask itself. The masks are thin metal frames with the lines etched out as slots in the metal. Certainly dust can be sticking to an edge.

The framelines are the black assembly as you follow the red line.

See the schematic here:

You can see where all the optical surfaces are, and which ones are accessible for "blowing"
