Ahh out today I lost my lens cap, it was a little loose but it just fell off while the camera was by my side in a busy place so I didn't hear it fall even though it was metal. My mistake for not making sure it was on properly
I've just read that the lens cap is a different size to the standard, and I'm not too keen on spending £50 for another cap in case I lose it again. Does anyone have any recommendation for something else that may fit and would be shippable to Perth!
Thanks all

Well-known
I have heard that some olympus caps and nikon cap can do the trick. I believe the size should be 40,5mm. but you should check it first in case I am wrong

I assume you don't have a filter on the lens. Here is an inexpensive option, an adapter ring to add an E39 filter :

You can also find filters with Summitar thread, although again these are pricier.

Awesome, thanks all for the info and especially the links. I'll probably pick up that metal lens cap from Peter Loy for sake of completeness, but will also look for a cheap plastic one for when I'm out and about.
Someone on another lens cap thread even suggested a juice bottle lid can fit, so that might be worth a try too!

Mine uses the same 42mm inside diameter cap that other Leica lenses with a 39mm thread uses. It is interchangeable with my other caps of this type but its is of a slightly different design so looks slightly different. Having said that I realise that my Summitar is an early version with the older style iris that gives a round aperture. It is possible I suppose that the later version of the Summitar is different. One point to remember though - if you use a Leitz filter on the front of the lens - these do have a slightly smaller outside diameter and it occurs to me that this might be what one poster is referring to when he says it takes a 41mm cap. But if so, that is not strictly correct as this issue arises on any Leica lens that has a Leitz filter on the front not just the Summitar.

Hmm interesting, mine is also an earlier model with the 10 blade iris so I'm wondering if I could order a 42mm one. There's a place here called Camera Electronic that stocks Leica so when I find the time I think I'll pop in and ask if I can see what cap fits, might get lucky and be able to use the 42mm.

Hi,
Try:-

as they are 42mm and so might be what you want.
