Sending the X1 into Leica NJ for a tuneup. I reckon it will be 4 weeks + before I get it back.

So, I am FILM only!

Actually, Leica R4 + 80mm Summilux/50 Cron ONLY! This is my weapon of choice for the near future...looking forward to it.

And, yes, all the Nikons are loaded with film and ready for a go as well, but they will stay home tucked away in their padded bags whilst I have fun with the beautiful, borrowed and sexy Lux! I have Lux lust.:p

Anyone local want to accompany me to Marietta for a little session with The General made famous in The Great Locomotive Chase during the Civil War?

Also, a bit later, I will be at the Martin Luther King center in Atlanta, then, Montgomery and Selma, Alabama.

Dave,

Any interest in trying my Sigma DP1 while you are awaiting repairs?

I can bring it to the meet next Saturday and you can use it as long as you like -better that than sitting on my shelf as it has for the last few months!

What was wrong with the X1 Dave?

I dunno...It has worked perfectly. Yesterday I deleted an image from the Samsung card and it seemed to have a mind of it's own when I tried to playback images on PLAY. Now, I noticed that there is no control over setting WB, ISO, etc. Then, I reformat it and it works. Come back later and it goes wonky again.

Maybe I should try an old SD card before shipping it out today.

Clarification:

I had the Samsun card in my card reader hooked up to the computer. For some reason I forgot I was viewing the images on the card...deleted one after making changes on PS and saved it back on the card.

Been kinda wonky ever since. Not all the time...just put an old card in. No problem. Put the Samsung card back in...no problem. Weird.

Just reformatted the Samsung card...took a few test shots. Perfect.

Maybe I will watch a day or two. Not really a problem sending it in if need be but I would like to have it back before we go on the road in April.

Hi, Jeff....bring it with you...never saw one of those before! Not sure now if I need to just change SD cards or what, but your Plan B sounds good!:)

Another update...

...totally wacked out. Turned it on with the Samsung SD card. Fine. Spun the wheel on the pad...wonk! Then put in another SD card (Extreme) and it did the same thing. Seems to be the control pad...3 years of dust? Who knows...

So, it is off to Leica Heaven for a vacation, rehab (like me) and a ride in big Brown.:p

No problem, Dave. Scrambled card? I will check in with the other thread before departure and make the final gear call!

Hi Dave, sorry for this inconvenient with your x1, I would happily lend you mine but there is an ocean and I do not know exactly how many miles of heart between us !

Ahh...thanks, my friend.:)

After cycling through the other card (Sandisk), the X1 is behaving like the star worker it is. Can't figure it out but Jeff is probably right...scrambled card.

Okay, so the X1 is/is not going on vacation. We'll see how the new (old) SanDisk card works out.

But, if it does go on vacation and rehab, then, through this study of contrasts, I think I can not only take some interesting photos, but use the rather brutish, manly-looking R4 rig for a defensive weapon!:p

Anyone familiar with my blog knows how I like contrasts in life:

Thanks Jeff...

Well, the X1 is working fine today. Only once yesterday did it go wonky. I could just barely touch the pad ring and it would activate all kinds of weird things and then it just settled down. No problems now.

Odd and most curious about it...I think I will keep using it for now just to see what it does in the future, if anything. I have been blowing air into every crevice and spinning the ring to dislodge anything stuck in there. Who knows?

Even with the previous wonky behavior it continued to take perfect pictures. I love this camera so no vacation/rehab for it anytime soon. Unless it acts up again in a significant way... We'll see...no worries.:D

Hi Dave,

Don't suppose there's any chance, any of those Sansdisk cards are new ones? Read that there are a lot of fakes floating around, with the fakes usually being smaller cards usually programmed as larger cards, with the result when you format them in camera, everything goes crazy.

Just a thought.

the pad ring in the x1, at least in my one sometimes goes crazy and when you touch it many movements appear on the display. Just switch off and on again and it works normally. Anyway it does not happen very oft, just sometimes.

Hmm...Damien, the Extreme card is a couple of years old and the Samsung card I got last year from LFI when I subscribed to the magazine. Worked fine with no problems.

It's weird that the pad would go crazy even with my not quite touching the ring...almost magnetic in response but just lightly touching the pad sent the wonky thing over the top!

Working fine now....small price to pay for such an excellent picture taking machine that I love. Really, I love the camera and the results!:)

Ah, maybe our cameras are siblings....:p

I will be speaking with Carmen at Leica NJ as soon as she calls. Maybe they have run into this before and I will let you know what she says. :)
