When is Zeiss bringing a Digital Camera to the Market?

I'm looking for good image quality... Some people say Canon G series.. but please keep the suggestions coming.. Thank you!

What's your budget. I think the G series is kind of outdated / outclassed at this point by most m4/3 and APS-C cameras.

Ok, how about a the Sony Nex-5n? or Olympus OM-D?

Digital camera from Zeiss is, optimistically speaking, highly unlikely. I talked to Zeiss photo guys and apart from the obvious lack of the technological tools and solutions (Zeiss Photo is not really a company producing electronic products and it makes no economical sense for them to 'start from scratch' in entirely new market) also the necessary business model one would have to follow (often updates/new models to keep up with the market) would not fit their strategy. Also keep in mind that Zeiss Photo is a rather small company compared to Nikon, Sony or Olympus (their respective photo departments)

The focus is on SLR lenses and entering new markets (with their lenses) via cooperations (Sony and hopefully others soon too).

Carl Zeiss Oberkochen has never made cameras, ever. There was for a while (1945-1973 or so) Zeiss Ikon in Stuttgart, but they were a completely separate company (owned by the Zeiss Stiftung, though). Since then, Carl Zeiss Oberkochen has cooperated with camera manufacturers to build cameras for their lenses (Yashica to build the Contax line, and more recently Sony).

Fair enough, but I think you know what I was getting at.

But thanks for the info.

Subcontract body to Cosina-Voigtlander and subcontract sensor to Sony.

I wish I wish I wish I wish that Cosina would make a deal with kodak sensors...

I cannot stress enough how much I wish that...

My uncle is a powerful business man and he's bringing me with him to Asia this christhmas and maybe I can pull of a meeting with Mister KObayashi or whatever his name is

As far as Cosina or Zeiss making a digital camera be it RF or mirrorless, fat chance ... the train left the station a while ago IMO.

I'm ready to buy a Zeiss Ikon Digital Camera....Just wondering when it will be sold by Zeiss Co and who else will buy it as well!!!

If you want the option to use Zeiss lenses, get a Sony NEX or a Fuji X-E1. Personally, I would go for the latter. Alternatively, you could get a Canon or Nikon DSLR and use Zeiss ZE or ZF lenses respectively, but that's heresy on this forum.

Hmmm. The mediocre build quality (for cameras) of Cosina combined with the underperforming sensors from Truesense (formerly Kodak). A winning combo to be sure.

Are you going to get off the plane and say to the first person you see, "Hi, I'd like to schedule a meeting with Mr Kobayashi or whats his face" ?

Why would they want to get involved? Huge development costs for starters and a limited product life before substantial upgrades are needed. Also, with Fuji edging into the RF arena with cameras that have some of the RF attributes at a fraction of the cost of the Leica line-up, they are well ahead of Zeiss in terms of potential market penetration.

Just my opinion, of course.

Ho, ho, ho. IF Zeiss wanted to bring an FF digi to market, which they don't, it'd be at most 1000€ cheaper than an M-E; probably closer to 500€ cheaper, or maybe only 200€. At this point, why would they bother? And why would anyone buy it? Dreaming of $2000 is pure fantasy.

Cheers,

R.

partnership.
With Sony, a simultaneous release of the rx1. Perhaps the Zeiss version would have a slightly different design, physically. Or maybe a different focal length or even an integrated OVF. With the name Zeiss on the front. Maybe the jpg engine is Zeiss as well.
Anyway, fun to think about.

*No Hasselblad/Sony jokes

Thats eeffin hilarious!
:p

Seriously though. These Zeiss FF DRF threads are like world peace at this point.
Enjoy the lenses They already offer. Save the wishes for a fast 28mm M mount or something that Zeiss might really do.
