that is shaped like the domke 5xb but without a zipper and with a slightly larger mouth?

i think this might be the perfect bag for so many occasions...

I have considered bringing my Domke F5XB to a tailor
to neatly remove the zipper and some of the Velcro.

The Domke F5XB is a very very handy bag indeed. Mine is now 18-19 years old, used with countless different kits, but still going strong. The A&A ACAM 7100 is a larger bag, more satchel shaped. It's both longer and taller, but it's not overly large. It does have a wider mouth and no zipper. It is actually my standard bag now as it fits a full kit of camera and three-four lenses as well as iPad, etc while remaining pretty darn trim and light weight. A great bag.

For something more the size of the Domke, look at the Billingham L2 "Alice". This is just a hair larger overall, with a fully gusseted over-flap, and a wide-mouthed separate pocket that locks under the overflap too. It holds a bit more than the Domke but is about the same overall size and weight, and has more padding to protect the camera section. Best of all, its nail and leather strap lock closures are completely silent. And it is beautifully made of the best materials.

I've had mine since 2004 and, like the Domke, it's been used constantly without showing a single sign of aging. The only thing I like better about the Domke is that the strap attaches via a pair of eyelets at the rear of the bag rather than being permanently fittted at the center, but this is a minor thing that could always be changed if desired. I almost always use this bag now, rather than the Domke, when I'm carrying an SLR with one or two lenses and nothing else. It fits an SLR's shape much better than the ACAM and provides more space inside than the Domke, without the annoying zipper in the way.
