Can you guys recommend the best IR filter for an M8 to remove that purple cast I get when shooting black fabrics? I had sent in the form when I bought the camera for a free filter and of course never got it and have been getting along fine without it all this time, but have to shoot some fashion coming up and want to give the M8 a spin. Not interested in dealing with Leica, just looking for something available aftermarket that I could run to bh or adorama and pick up that will work reasonably well.

thanks!

You should have got your 2 free filters if your camera has not been registered previously. Try to register your camera on the Leica site, even if it is a user. Got my free filters this way when i bought a second hand M8.2 in May 2011. Otherwise i prefer the Leica filters which allows for removing the glass from the ring of the filter very easily if need be. For filters working more than reasonably well i for one can recommend also B+W (http://tinyurl.com/3u55tvg) which is a brand of Schneider Kreuznach.

B&W & Leica . . . . .

Two Leica filters provided free with the M8.2 when purchased. Did purchase a couple of B&W as well, readily available from larger retail and online camera dealers. The majority of filters that I have used have been B&W and believe they are top of the line.

I have B+W, Leica, and a Heliopan... I can't tell the difference. But maybe that reveals something about my standards ;)

+1 in both regards :)

The Helioplan filters seem to be the best build but, I don't think they work any better or worse. My understanding Leica contracted out the production of it's filters.
