90mm Summicron photos

I know some people prefer the V3 (smaller and a bit sharper) or the last AA version, but I really enjoy my V2, and I've found it's a "portrait machine" with an amazing selective focus and clean out of focus zones that shine always: wide open and with all other f-stops too... Maybe that's why it was made for decades of being THE portrait lens by Leica... A bit big and heavy, but I've accepted it...

Cheers,

Juan

This was taken with a 90mm Summicron 2.0 E55 Lens on a Leica M8.2 body. Is that considered Pre-ASPH? I don't know the series exactly.

Yes, the ones for 55 filters were done just before the aspherical ones... That's the V3. Noticeable smaller and lighter than V2.

Juan

I just got a pre ASPH today. It doesn't have a mark anywhere on it. I used to sell Leica and if someone said this lens was NOS I would believe them. No internal dust, no tiny mark anywhere. Doesn't look like it was ever really used. I almost prefer a more used lens just for the sake of not placing the first ding but it is for using not looking at. Will post some images.

I too have V2, more a finance limit though...
BUT! I took it out to a walk park the other day, and it is just a nice lens to use, focus was easy, wasn't heavy to me.. (my normal lens on my K20d is a Sigma EX 24-70 f/2.8).
Film is out to Blue Moon... will post a few in just over a week :)

I cant say enough good things about this lens, I have the e55 version, only drawback for me is its weight but only when I travel. It just makes me look like a better photographer than I am. And the DOF is so short on close focus, that it works like a macro lens. One of my favorite portraits with it:

That's great! Very well focused too!

I was really happy to see this thread this morning. Great photos by everyone. Can't wait to see the rest.

I've been looking to add a 90mm E55 Summicron for a few months now. Does anyone know how much they're going for and what a good price would be?

Don't pay what I paid, which was TOO MUCH. I didn't know. I'd say around $700-$900? What do you guys think?

Thank you for the replies everyone. I hate to have this thread digress so if you have any further input on prices, please feel free to message me. I'm considering a few potential ones right now and just wanted to verify prices.

Why would the E48 be "better" than the E55? And what is the criteria for being better the way you see it? I appreciate you answer mostly because I own a heavy E48 version and find it impossible to see the difference in pictures on the net. No surprise, but I would do the comparison if I had both and judge from prints. BUT, if you already have convincing results that would save me from expense and time waste.

I am quite happy with the Summicron and take it despite its bulk and weight over the Elmar and Tele-Elmarit that is sitting next to it on the shelf.

I thought the E48 was able to do close-ups as opposed to the E55 which can't? Maybe I'm wrong.

Didn't realize, there is such a thread until today ;-)

I found a wonderful pre ASPH a week ago - I LOVE THIS LENS!

E55 Pre-ASPH version. This thread made me decide to shoot an entire roll of film with only the 90mm summicron... something i've yet to do since I've owned it. I'll try to remember to post results after i develop and scan the roll haha
