Decision Time: GF1 or S90?

You are balancing versatility (use various lenses) vs pocketability, decent DoF control vs none (except macro shots).

In the end, use what you like, in your shoes, it'd be the GF-1 for me.

It's coming: Panasonic Lumix G 14mm F2.5 ASPH. to be released Autumn 2010.

Oh, and I also see there's another prime in the works, too; this time an 8mm F3.5 ASPH.

At some point in the future, MFT will have 8mm, 14mm, 17mm, 20mm, and 45mm primes (in 35mm-equiv. terms: 16mm, 28mm, 34mm, 40mm, and 90mm, respectively). I like primes.

Why use words that judge like "serious", what's the value? My car is faster, my lens is longer and faster, why does it matter. Are you happy? As long as you're not hurting anybody live long and prosper.

Wow, my post was not negative at all... I use a GRD myself. I'm not a snob, I'm just saying that there are clear advantages to using gear with bigger sensors and more versatile lenses. I never said the OP should never use a P&S seriously. I said that the GF-1 is the more serious tool... which IMHO it is, due to its versatility and better IQ in a wider range of situations. Stop trying to make me out to be a bad guy because I said one camera is more serious than another. ****, I used a Holga for extended periods of time (seriously) and people have those pics hanging on their walls. I sure as hell wouldn't want that as my only camera though.

Like new is unused, on my books 300 shoots is used (that is 8 rolls in old money). If I were your buyer, expect to get trouble (e.g. neg feedback, complaints to ebay/paypal for misrepresentation).

First off, I haven't even listed it yet. I always describe my products and usage so the buyer can make good buying decisions. I am also available for questions if they have concerns. I have a 100% positive feedback rating with over 100 sales to my credit. Hopefully, I will not run into trouble.

As much as I love my S90, if the GF1 isn't too big for you to carry as much as you would the Canon, the 4:3 sensor and MUCH broader lens options would be the deciding factor for me in favour of the GF1. If the GF1 is too large for you and you will end up leaving it home more often then not, it doesn't matter how much better a camera it is, the S90 would be the better choice.

My D700 is by far the best camera I've ever owned, but I bought an S90 because the D700 is just too damned big to carry for anything but that which I'm being paid to shoot.

I'd go with the GF1. Now that Sony is coming out with it's own micro 4/3 camera, there might be some Zeiss lenses for it in the future. Plus the bigger sensor is nice.
