Notes

Looking North toward Chimney Rock and the adjoining mesa. The Pinon pines are virtually all dead from bark beetles. The green trees are mostly ancient Junipers that evidently have deeper roots (beetles killed trees that couldn't get enough water in seven years of drought). The hike up to the apex of the mesa took about 90 minutes. A gorgeous day.
