Cheapie solution with a heavy lens and a ball head.

Swing the ball post into the cutout
and mount the camera that way.

This is a Dutch (?) Cambro ball head mounted on a lightweight Linhof Schiansky tripod. Works just as well with the Manfrotto ball head.

Not counterbalanced, bur steadier than trying to
keep it upright with a ball head.
