Illinois Regular Chicago area meeting

I'll be in Chicago for the store fixturing show at the McCormick Ctr next week Tuesday-Thursday, so if any of you see a chubby Italian with an M6 and a 35mm 'cron or collapsible 50mm Elmar downtown (looking quite lost), please say hi.
Mike
PS: Also, best place to buy a nice Blackhawks jersey for the boy? And if possible, I'd like to have a beer with Stan Mikita and Bobby Hull.

If you're going out to the United Center where they play - probably a pretty short cab ride (DO NOT WALK), I would expect they'd be happy to sell you an official souveneur jersey. If not, there are a few sports clothes places downtown - maybe ESPN Zone.
Enjoy the city.

Well... we were a very talkative bunch. From 10 to almost 2 PM, we shared stories, tips, handled each other's gear and had a very good time. I must develop the roll of Neopan 1600 I finished burning there and will try post some photos sometime soon.

We're meeting again, ain't we?

Was a good time - great turn out (5 or 6 of us no?). I'll get around to processing that roll around September, at my current rate. :p

Yes - there had better be more meetings. I need them to justify my Canon gear as "sane compared to you leica-philes" ;)

Good time had by all, I think...Great meeting everyone in person and look forward to the next meeting (that I will be around for, that is...:))

Why not walk? I've always found Chicago to be the US city most like Toronto, architecturally at least, it must have developed at the same time period chronologically, but it's less stuffy than Toronto. Similar ethnic mix too, lots of Italians, Irish, Poles....I've always felt very safe there, food is great, and the nightlife is always happenin'....jazz & blues everywhere.
Maybe I'm naive but the toughest bunch I saw there was some St. Louis Blues fans in full colours taking over the sidewalk...big deal. But I've always been there at spring for this store-fixturing show.....
It's my kind of town.

Walking is great in many parts of the City.

But over by United Center, not only is it a bit dicey (safety wise) - It's bordered on all sides by public housing projects that are in the process of being emptied. And I think the Vice lords have claimed it as their turf in the current drug war festivities. And - honestly - unless you like post-apocalyptic wastelands - it's not really that interesting either. Some good industrial stuff - but mostly it's just uncomfortable.

There are not many places in the city that I'm truly uncomfortable. This is one.

Not a short walk either. About 2.5 miles. Not so bad if you take the Green line to Ashland and walk from there maybe. Or the bus and get off a stop or two early. But walking the whole distance could be a bit rough.

Last to show up at the meet. Last to realize the site is back up.

I had a great time. I also have a roll to develop. Rogue, let me know when you've developed yours, so I can start planning on when I'm going to develop mine!
One thing, though. I've spent the last four years perfectly happy with my 50mm Summicron. I think that era might have ended. Hmm...which pieces of jewelry will my wife not realize are missing...

Next one April 19 at Border's downtown. Hey, who knows where that is?

Also, if anyone knows how to make a sticky note, how about copying the post that has all of the dates Mar through Nov up. Or tell me how and I'll do it. wouldn't hurt me any to learn.

I think you need a Mod to make a sticky - but given how few threads we have here so far, you could probably just make a dedicated calendar thread and post it new.

Or edit your first post in this thread to include the relevant information. And we can always refer to page 1.

Hey, it's great to hear the meeting went well and that a bunch were able to show up! I wish I could have made it, but getting to Chicago (from Brew City) for a day is tough for me these days (new house and new wife!). If anyone plans a trip to Milwaukee, let me know! Otherwise, I'll just keep checking in here and try to make one in Chicago.
