The Back-backyard feeder was 2/3rds empty. It seems in the morning before lunch it first gets emptied, Then at lunch is a heavy feeding when the day warms up.
This will be Christmas tree weekend. “Maggie” is in Maggie mode…

ASA,
Thanks for posting this. We have many of these. “Maggie” tells me they are related to the black capped chickadees
Today I saw an evil squirrel near the back-backyard feeder.
The front-backyard feeder was exceptionally busy today. It got depleted about 2/3rds, and I filled it yesterday. Opening up the feed ports made it easier for the birds to feed.
It seems the feeders I have favor the smaller birds that are sparrow sized or smaller.
My research indicates that the bigger birds like the Cardinals and Blue Jays like platform feeders.
Today at Home Cheapo I bought a 5 gallon bucket to store some feed. Will likely need to buy another one. Next time I buy feed I will buy some sunflower seeds to fortify the cheap seed mix.
I also will get something to use as a water dish. The rabbits will also benefit from a fresh water supply.

After finally setting up a date for my Pet scan, Friday the 13th, I called my urologist’s office to schedule the consult for the results. The earliest opening was on December 30th. I stressed that I have an aggressive Cancer, and the best they could do is put me on a list to be called if there is a cancellation.
Today they called and now I moved up to December 20th, a week after my Pet scan.
A friend of ours in Peekskill had prostate Cancer, an aggressive version, that metastasized. He too had New York Columbia Presbyterian. They did the DNA test and found out that Imuno Therapy would cure him. He used some drug that cured him. Basically the Cancer had spread to his bone, and usually at that point you are a “goner.”
So basically a miracle cure. Our friend’s wife asked if our urologist is doing the DNA testing.
So I’m feeling a bit worn down with the waiting. What happened in Canada is happening here: a doctor’s shortage. Simple supply and demand.
Then earlier in the week there was the assassination of that United Health Care Exec…
“Maggie” is in “Maggie-Mode” getting crazy with Christmas decorating. We bought a live tree, only a 6-7 footer. Bought a Home Cheapo tree stand, and Maggie went gung-ho to assemble it, then calls me into fix it after she cross threaded a bolt.
Another reason why men have shorter lives.
I bought a cartrage of silicone to use as an adhesive to create a wreath out of shells I gathered in North Carolina. Maggie’s sister has a beach house at the Jersey Shore, so basically I will create a beach wreath that is a one off.
At “Micheal’s” a craft store I found this stamped out metal circle that circles the words “Merry Christmas.” I have a good assortment of large and small shells to build out the depth, and small enough shells I think to spell out the message. Some of the larger shells are the size of my hand.
I will use a caulking gun, and the silicone I consider a permanent bond. The shells though are delicate. Let’s eee if I can pull this off.
On a selfish note, I got delivery of the Candy Apple Red Strat body. I was concerned that thermal shock during the transport could introduce some weather checking in the finish, but that did not happen. The body was advertised as a Closet Classic, meaning there could be some imperfections. I looked it over and I saw only one tiny dot the size of a pencil point on the right arm contour.
No big deal. Pretty much I would have to point out the one imperfection, as most people would not notice.
I’m still waiting for the mint green pickguard.
I was alone in the house for a few hours, and I took the opportunity to plug in. Had to further tweak the pickup heights to the next level. I did this with four out of 6 Tele’s, and 3 are mucho-great. Kinda like having three hot girlfriends: one a tall runway model; the other a swimsuit model; and another a stripper.
My friend’s father kinda taught me how performing live is best if you think of it as having sex publicly on stage. Pretty much you want to start off slow, build up, and drive the audience into a frenzy of sorts. It helps if you are a tease…
So pretty much I have a bit of a harem. The DeMarino is a very sexy guitar.
So as I turn up the volume everything now is smoother, softer, and more buttery. I am very pleased.
The one guitar that I call woody is kinda dark sounding. Could be a good Jazz guitar. Maybe better suited to another amp that has less warmth and midrange focus. The guitar and amp might be too much of a good thing going on.

I’m really happy that I’m a bad boy and bought that Strat body. Really pretty. Should really be inspiring.
I dug out the bag of North Carolina shells. Kinda heavy, but I kinda figured out a way to use the oyster shells to cover and build out the flat metal stamped out circle to build it out more 3 dimensionally. Then I have an abundant amount of scalloped shells that have remarkable coloring to add another layer.
Kinda modular…
So first step is to build out the armature and cover the circle, then the decoration of scalloped shells of various sizes will be built out to build out further depth and to creat a “D” shaped cross section.
The flat metal section is pained red, and pretty much just the Christmas message will be visible. The diameter is about 20 inches so I’ll only be making the diameter larger. I don’t expect this to be so flat, and there will be abundant texture.
The caulking gun and silicone will make it EZ-PZ. I’m a clever guy, but also a lazy slacker.
Off to guitarland.
The kids will be coming by after visiting trainland tomorrow.
We will decorate the tree. “Maggie” will bake cookies with the grand daughter (10).
Have to hit Home Cheapo for a hook and some concrete Ankers.
The house is a mess. Oh-well…

I still get the automated Probation meeting reminders. Oh-well.
The tree is up and decorated. Had to buy some more lights. Our last tree was a dwarf spuce that was a living tree. It resides in a planter that is alongside my driveway.
The wreath made of shells came out well. Weighs a tonne. Used an entire tube of silicone from a caulking gun. A bit over the top, but a thoughtful gift for a beach house. Kinda funny how I just kinda had the right amount of oyster shells for my armature, and there was not a vast surplus of scalloped shells.
So the “Maggie” frenzy is over. I’m not really feeling the Christmas spirit. I’ll feel a lot better after I get the results from the PET scan and the Bio-Marker test (DNA Test). That won’t happen till the 20th. Anyways I feel low key.
Tomorrow I will hit the gym. A workout always relaxes me and makes me feel better.
Had to refill the back-backyard feeder in the morning and the front-backyard feeder at lunchtime. Hungry birds.

The cardinals prefer black sunflower seed and are usually ground feeders. They like feeding under brush as well. We throw handfuls of black sunflower seeds under our azalea and other bushes, and the cardinals like to forage. Throw in some dried mealworms for the bigger birds as well.

Standard Makiflex No.3 Bundle New to Me by Nokton48, on Flickr
I saw this bundle on German Ebay and made an offer, it was accepted. The Stovepipe is quite unusual, I've never seen this one before. The 13.5cm early Zeiss Tessar on Peco Junior recessed board will get some use too. The Standard Makiflex is quite useful to me, big lenses fit into the cameras inner throat. So now I have three Standard Makiflexes, and three of the Auto Aperture Makiflexes. This one will get some use I'm sure of it. This one has 28.880 actuations according to the counter on the side, so lots of life left in it. LOL

Phil,
I saw those black sunflower seeds at Adams Fair Acre Farms.
I know the rabbits love our property because of the brush piles I made in the back.
We mulch the lawn, and it looks as vibrant as Snoopy and JJ’s, but they use chemicals and commercial fertilizers.
In the back-backyard we have lots of clover, which of course the rabbits love. Then we have become a worm farm. Our house is where the birds hung out, and now the feeders.

Don’t forget the free gym membership that comes with those cameras. I think it smart to go modular. Kinda like having a stable or harem. Nothing like having a rigged camera dedicated to a lense.
Grab and go is a luxury. Pretty cool to be spoiled.

SRV played a brown Fender amp that utilized a 15 inch speaker. He also used heavy gauge strings, but tuned down to lower the string tension to allow bending. The big strings and that 15 inch speaker helped create that sound. Of course he had a great feel and a great pair of hands.
Did you know that the crazy guitar on David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” is SRV? Bowie wanted that unique sound.
I watched a video where Stevie just turned up the volume on his Strat to breakout from rhythm to lead. The thing is that he just played the amp and that is why he had such great dynamics. Most of the sound came from just his hands. There is no compression and the distortion he got was from his heavy attack and his hands.
One way to describe his tone: in a word “raw.”
The brown Fender Super is a similar amp and of the same brown era Vibroverb that Stevie used. These amps were only made between 1960 and 1963 and were a very short lived era for Fender. They are considered the bridge or transition from the 50’s tweed era to the later 60’s “Blackface” era where Fender promoted more clean headroom in their guitars and amps.
Kinda funny how as Leo Fender tried to make amps louder and cleaner, that the envelopes were expanded for louder and more distortion. Surf music got washed away by drugs and distortion. The era of sex, drugs and rock and roll emerged.
My 1960 Brown Fender Super has a similar rawness as SRV’s Vibroverb, but it used 2 ten inch speakers. During the brown face era the speakers could of been P10R’s or P10Q’s. Know that the P10R’s have a smooth paper cone and they breakup early and have an UBER smooth top end roll off that gets described as chimney. The 2x10 configuration also produces a punch you in the face strong bass that is tight.
Later in the Brownface era around 1963 the Super amps used the higher output P10Q’s with ribbed cones. The highs hung in there, they got louder without the low threshold of speaker distortion that the P10R’s displayed and promoted. In less words the P10Q’s have a slightly later breakup, a different sound, but also have a lovely distorted sound.
I’m kinda pleased though with the P10R’s I have, but I could change and use the later speakers for more headroom if I want it to perhaps be more of a Jazz amp rather than a rock and blues machine.
My 1960 amp by serial number is a transitional amp that is in itself a Fender oddity. Over the years of the brown era there were two circuits fender used: a 4G5; and a 4G5-A.
My amp has the more retro 50’s style pre-amp, but the later 4G5-A vibrato that uses an additional tube in the circuit. IMHO I somehow have the earlier breakup design with the superior later vibrato circuit, the best of two worlds.
Another nerdy oddity is that the circuit layout follows that of a white Fender Twin.
You just have to know that lots of things happened back then in Fullerton California. All kinds of odd substitutions happened, and some like my transitional version that is not a 4G5, nor a 4G5-A happened a lot at the Fender factory.
Off to check on my estate and bird feeders. I’m wearing my heated vest. I think it prevents me from overeating in the winter to fight and compensate for the cold. Pretty much an unintended consequence that is good.

I know we do little, but I think it counts. Can’t be responsible for others…
I used a push mower, but “Maggie” bought me a Milwaukee battery powered mower. Did you know that gas powered mowers are big polluters?
I took note how our lawn has improved over time with our cut and letting the clippings mulch back into the lawn. For Dandelion control we simply clip off the yellow flowers so they can’t propagate.
No chemicals and no expense. Under the Japanese Red Maple we have moss…
Priced black sunflower seeds at Lowes. They had a 20 pound bag for $30.00.
Seems like the cheap eggs sold at Trader Joe’s being sold as a loss leader went south. I’ll have to substitute nut butters for protien intake. Not a bad idea to go plant based. I love almond butter.
We went into town to this art pop-up event. We always run into people we know from our community.
Separately I have developed my taste for swamp ash Tele’s. Swamp ash has this brightness that can get out of control. It requires a controled touch. Some people utilize a soft touch, but I am aggressive, so I tame the treble and abundant treble bite by playing either right over the neck pickup, or even the wood at the end of the neck.
My style is not so easy. At the base of the neck the string excursions are greater than closer to the bridge. Also getting a good tone is kinda hard. There is a lot more to control close to the neck. Know that most players pick close to the bridge and not close to the neck.
The Cabronita’s have alder bodies, and the new 1-piece Tele body I secured for little money is an entire different animal. Alder is kinda neutral in coloration and kinda has a flat response. I play alder guitars close to the bridge like normal players.
So pretty much a very different style and one easier to master. Pretty much I know how to tame harsh treble with my hands. Not easy to do…
So this is where I’m heading now. The alder makes for a smoother easier to play guitar. Playing close/closer to the bridge brightens the sound.
Maggie had me go to Home Goods to go shopping for more ornaments for our Christmas tree. The tree was looking sparse because this year we got a 7 foot tree that is a fatso. Still could use more ointments, but at least for now it is not a sad tree.

Enchanted Garden™ Black Oil Sunflower Seed Wild Bird Food - 50 lb
Enchanted Garden Black Oil Sunflower Seed is a popular wild bird seed that appeals to most wild birds. Oil-rich sunflower seeds are high in protein and a great source of energy for birds. Black oil sunflower seeds have a tender shell that is easy to crack open, which makes them highly desirable...

The small birds seem to do quite well on Southern Vancouver Island, the ones I put a feeder out for are the Anna’s hummingbirds. They don’t migrate like the Rufus. My bird feed is a large sack of sugar, usually bought when it goes on sale. It gets turned into a sweet syrup that keeps them fueled. Problems arise when the temperature drops below freezing, which fortunately it doesn’t do too often. In past years I would just swap a thawed feeder for the frozen one every couple hours. Presently am using a small electric heater element and thermocouple to ensure hummers get a warm drink. During cold spells they camp in a tree near the feeder during the day.
When it’s cold they puff up their feathers until they’re almost spherical. Will find a photo next time the computer is on.
Another thought, grow your own sunflower seeds next year. Get grandson to help with the planting, my grandma got me started gardening over 70 years ago.
This Canuck company in PEI sells first rate seeds, I get all mine from them. Probably lots of suppliers of seeds in your area.

Glen,
Thanks for the response.
I too had the thought of growing sunflowers to harvest for this.
In the past I suggest this to “Maggie” but for the grand daughter who was 8, who is now ten. Woman factor…
I was talking with some artists today that live in Peekskill. I told them about my friend Eddi-Jeff who ordered a Big Mac meal, and when asked what size drink, he replied,”Extra-medium.”
The girl behind the counter did not think it was amusing, but I laughed.
I riffed off this and I said this is the problem in the U.S. and the world: basically too much mediocrity, and I don’t want in on being “extra-medium.”
“Maggie” says I overdo things, but why live life like you are half-dead? Am I too bold? I think not. I don’t want to be extra-medium…
So I think Maggie is afraid of me and my ideas. I like crazy things.
“Don’t tell Maggie,” but I want to build out that 1966 C-10 longbed Fleetside into a crazy truck…
Perhaps I have a bit of a Neapolitan complex because I’m not a big guy, but I have balls.
To live life with passion is my goal…

Perhaps I have a bit of a Neapolitan complex because I’m not a big guy, but I have balls.
To live life with passion is my goal…

Austin,
Thanks for the laugh.
Next time you are at Trader Joe’s buy some of these Japanese sweet potatoes. I wrap them in foil and roast them on the grill. Serve with caramelized purple onions. They are purple in color. The fatter ones I suggest cutting in half lengthwise to have a faster cook.
After grilling they also do well mashed with the onions.
