The former Independence Hall is today known as the Reunification Palace. It remains largely unchanged and is beautifully preserved. It was designed by Vietnamese architect Ngô Viết Thụ in 1962 and completed in 1966. The Independence Hall served as the home and office of former President Nguyễn Văn Thiệu from 1967 until April 1975, when he fled the country. Since that time, it is used for ceremonial purposes, only. It also houses a permanent exhibition on 'the war'.
