Other Areas Germany, origin of the basic idea

Let me just add, that on Behalf of all users of Fine Cameras Everywhere, I would like to thank those Scientists, Engineers, and skilled workers in Germany for my Leica, Contax, Retina, and Voigtlander cameras.

Quick, Socke, and more pictures from those fine cameras???

At the moment I'm still strugling with my japanese Canon film scanner to get my japanese Fuji Sensia slides from my japanese Contax G2 with japanese 28,45 and 90mm lenses into digital files.

I'm so tempted by this japanese Epson R-D1, I might even add some japanese Zeiss glass on it :)

Matanzas on BW400CN
Matanzas shore on Canon CMOS
The place where I spent the best three weeks of this winter
and of cause La Habana

I'll add more during the next weeks.

And let me add, to be fair,

On behalf users of Cameras Everywhere, including Socke in Germany, I would like to thank those Scientists, Engineers, and skilled workers in JAPAN for my Nikon, Canon, Cosina, and Konica cameras as well as for the fine Japanese cameras owned by others. They have preserved moments of joy in our lives and have brought pictures of pretty girls to RFF.

Yeahhh... We Meant the Girls!

Welcome M. I'm still laughing about the picture that Socke posted!

My grandmother's maiden name was Walter and her mother's name was Kessler. I have no idea which part of Germany they originated from. The Kessler family was in the US in the early 1700's - before there was a US - and the Walter family arrived no later than the early 1800's.

There are many German surnames where I grew up; Stup, Shuff, Zimmerman, Plunkard.... the list goes on and on. When I was able to spend some time in your beautiful country, I felt right at home and LOVED the food!

Anyway...... pleased to meet you and I'll watch for your posts. :)

Hello M and welcome. Hope you enjoy this friendly forum and I look forward to more posts from you. I have German roots as my mother was from Hamburg and half my family is still there.

Hey Socke, don't suppose you know the name of the small pub/kneipe opposite the Werder Bremen stadium, on the other bank of the river, where you can get a ferry ride to cross the river and the ferry captain does doughnuts to ensure all those who have been drinking are almost sick...?

Went to this bar several times on the way to watch Werder games (this is when they were still crap) and always had too much of everything. ;)

Thanks Socke!
Mmm that Ferry does look familiar, I think it used to cost something like 2DM to cross the river.....not a long distance but always an adventure! ;)

"Was ist grün und stink nach fisch? WERDER BREMEN!" Hey how come Werder are so GOOD now....???

Cheers,

AKALAI

M, welcome to the forum. True story: My grandmother's maiden name was Walter and her mother's was Kessler. Growing up, I was fed sauerkraut at home and school that was pretty sour...... except my grandmother's which was almost sweet. I thought my grandmother just didn't know how to make it. That is, until I spent some time in Germany. I discovered that she was the only one making it correctly! My wife has learned how to make it like my grandmother did and I love sauerkraut and sausage with good mustard. Had it for supper just two nights ago.

I spent some time in Alhorne with visits to Oldenberg, Koln etc. I was never able to get to Munchen and regretted not seeing Bavaria. I actually spent quite a bit of time around Frankfurt-am-Main, Sembach, Leipheim and Norvenich. Duren had some fine restaurants but the food was good everywhere I went in Germany.

If you visit my gallery (doubs43) you can see a few of the pictures I took around Frankfurt more than 30 years ago.

There are a great bunch of guys and gals on this forum and I feel certain that you'll like it here.

I don't speak German but sometimes I can catch the drift. Does that translate to "What is green and stinks like fish? A woman from Bremen!" ?

How close am I?

Haha...pretty close, the "what is green and stinks llike fish" bit is right...but Werder Bremen is the name of the major football club in Bremen. Has to be something very wrong with a woman that stinks like fish.... ;)

Hello, out there! Am I the only Kraut in this forum?

Hi M alias whatyournameis,

missed this thread somehow, no you are not the only "Kraut" here , I am living in the Rhein-Neckar area near Heidelberg and Mannheim.
BTW since I learned that the word "Kraut" in US or UK is mostly meant in a much more derisive way than I always thought I don't like it any more and think we should not call ourselves this way.
Same is "frogs " for French, mostly meant derisive and often offensive. I would not use this word , not even in good humor among french firiends.

Best,
Bertram

@FrankS: Hey, Weil is not far away. I am not from Baden, but from Hamburg and still try to get used to the funny accent :) Do you still understand words like "Moschdfeschd" or "alla gut"?
...

Moin M,
you'd be the first Fischkopp who learns fluent Badisch, that can't work from biological reasons, you need a certain kind of Gosche (mouth) for that. :)))
BTW "alla" comes from the french "allez", (=go!). We've been occupied by the French sveral times during the last 300 years.
A sofa is still a Schesslong (Chaiselongue) here and we still walk on the Trottwar=Trottoir ( boardwalk for the english speaking friends).
Do you still want to learn it ? :))))

Best,

Actualy, I'm trying to get software running in Beckstown for a company in München which has to fix what the developers in Baden-Baden call software engineering :)

Hello, are there any german speaking people here? I am just trying to link all those crazy people that walk the streets and take pictures of strangers :)

----

Hallo, gibt es hier auch deutschsprachige Leute? Ich versuche gerade, all die Verrückten einzusammeln, die in den Straßen herumlaufen und Bilder von mehr oder weniger Fremden machen :)

Here is the Babel Fish translation of what you wrote. It came out a little different. :D

"Hello, gives it here also German-speaking people? I try straight to in-collect all the crazy people who run around in the roads and make pictures of more or less strangers."
