I just saw the advert for the program on ITV 1. It talks about James Jarche, his grandfather, and during this advert I instantly saw his Leica M3. He had a 35mm Summaron with goggles as well. It's on at 10:15pm on Sunday.

Just thought I'd post this on here, might be an interesting piece of TV.

I saw it last night and it was very interesting. David went out with his grandfathers' last camera and tried to reproduce some of the pictures. He went to Merthyr and took a mining picture and one of a street in the town.
It inspired me to go to Merthyr on the bus today to take a few street pictures with my M7.

The programme was fun, light-hearted and thoroughly enjoyable to watch. Thanks for the heads up!

... and Suchet doesn't have a bad eye himself either, even though the programme was about his grandfather.

Just watched the programme and found it very enjoyable. Suchet does have a good eye for a shot. Definitley inherited it from grandad.

I thought the invite to 10 Downing St for a photo shoot with the PM just goes to show that who you are opens doors that us mere mortals don't ever get a chance to do.

I thought it was a very good program illustrating that there are many fine photographers who just didn't get the acclaim that maybe they deserved.
I have to say that there do seem to be quite a few programs from the Beeb and others these days highlighting the value of photojournalism.

Between BBC2, BBC4 and the Sky Arts channels we do seem to be doing rather well for interesting photography based programmes over here.

I'd never heard of Jimmy Jarche before but was blown away by some of the pictures they showed. The saddest part of this programme for me was the fact that it highlighted the fact that photojournalism simply doesn't have the same backing and interest that it did in the days of Picture post, Life et al. But thats another discussion.

I couldn't agree more with you, Simon.
Great programme. I'm keeping it on the hard drive of my TV box, just as I have for the French subtitled film from Cinemoi, about Jacques Henri Lartigue (amazing film about a true photo genius), so David Suchet couldn't be in better company!

Me too, it is quite wonderful except I wish they would have been more honest about the meetings. He clearly didn’t just walk up to people and be recognised. There was a camera team behind him so it all must have been arranged. Nevertheless it was great.

Pity not to see him metering a few shots. When he first saw a contact sheet he was relieved they were exposed well.

Amazing to see what Getty Images is holding, plus what they don’t know they’re holding.
