Today I learned http://tocad.com/ has the contract from Contax for authorized Contax repairs in the US. All models: Contax 645, Contax G series, Contax C/Y SLR series, Point & Shoots.

Apparently anything they can't repair, they can get repaired by sending it back to Japan!

EDIT - CORRECTION

Effective April 1, 2015 ToCAD America will cease service of all Contax equipment.
Beginning April 1st, please send all Contax units for repair to:

just for the sake of completeness, UK repairs for Kyocera Contax equipment are handled by alpha digital services:

I thought Tocad was authorized as soon as they took over U.S. distribution when Contax USA shut down a few years ago.

Am I missing something? :confused:

Nope. Search this forum for ToCAD and you will get multiple hits. Anything more I might say would be considered "sour grapes".
 
I live in Canada, have a T3 that needs repair (the winder, natch). Aside from shipping costs, am I better off to ship it off to Japan rather than to TOCAD, and does anyone know where in Japan to send it with Kyocera being out of the picture as I understand it?

Hi,

just to report back. The lenses returned today: Turnaround 4 weeks. The lenses look clean, nice and seem to work well. Obviously need to wait for film processed for the final accessment. But so far there is no reason to believe anything went wrong. I am pretty happy so far :)

BTW, do you think that the price charged was fair?

Hi,
I just called ToCad about updating the G1 to 'green sticker' status.
The answering system was easy to manage, and I got to a real live person on the telephone right away with only one button press.
They said they no longer honor the Kyocera voucher if you somehow manage to buy a new lens from a dealer, but the upgrade is only around 45 dollars and that includes return shipping.
 
Like Adam my camera was repaired by Metro Camera Repair in NYC.
My prized black Contax T looks and works great now! :)

do you still have the phone numbers? The tocad.com doesn't work for me. I need to upgrade my g1 to the green label status.

Tocad did the repair on one of my G2 bodies that developed a weird light leak. Came back 100%- also about 4 weeks. They never did tell me what was wrong, and my attempts to call and find out ended with no answer. This was two years ago, and the camera has performed fine ever since. Not like dealing with Sherry though!

EDIT - 4-22-09 NO LONGER A VALID WEB ADDRESS: You may also want add http://www.zeisscamera.com/first.shtml for all Contax Pre-War and Post War RFs....FOR USA/Canada residents.

He does not do CLA's (http://www.zeisscamera.com/services_cla.shtml), but does Overhauls (Total Strip Down and cleaning with major repairs $335.00, excludes meter rebuild ($120.00), and shutter replacement), CLA is included....Camera will work better than new (in his words). He has a lot of interesting reading too. Worth the time to check out his Web-Site.

I live in the Philippines and I would be better off sending my T2 straight to Japan. Does anybody have their contact?

He bought all Konica N.Americas parts when they left.

I suspect sevres_babylone was referring to a Contax T3 rather than a Konica T3.

There should be a law preventing manufacturers from reusing model numbers . . . :confused:

They send all to Japan -- they don't carry out anything in the UK ..

I have been personally at their premises :) in Reading ...

I have sent Contax Distagon 4/18 for repair -- 160 GBP !! 8 weeks turnaround -- superb job but expensive a bit .. and takes some time..

I have decide to have my own repair services -- and finally found a good partner for repairs ..
We do these services (Contax, Leica etc.) for far better prices which doesn't mean lower quality..
