There's no such thing as "Bessa Porn," and that's what's good about them.

They're just machines to take pictures, they're not objects of mechanical perfection that inspire lust.....and collect dust on shelves.

Leave that to the black-paint-LHSA-commemorative-edition crowd.

Fastest Bessa on the Block ... R3A with Canon 0.95 !!

Just recently got my R3A from Jonathan and had some time tonite to make the necessary measurements ..... AND, whaddaya NO, it does fit, doesn't shroud the
metering and doesn't damage the camera. Just spent the evening shooting Christmas lights around the neighborhood .....

Love this rig!!!!

Hi Minoltist, how do you like new VF... I'm thinking for some time about buying it (wearing glasses and having hard time with speed framing). Could you be descriptive and comparative with enough lines of text? Thanks

Finish is nice. No parallax compensation (afaik only 90mm CV has it).
VF itself has slight barrel distorsion ,
I didn't use it so much yet... I had some problems with wrong framing in the past (like heads and hands cut off), and I hope this VF will improve my frame composition

Ahhh, I can finally contribute to this thread. Next time I'm going to rig up a lightbox.
The DOF on the second was a little thinner than I anticipated. But that's what I get for shooting wide open at 200mm.

I've noticed that some R3As say "BESSA R3A" on the front while others say just "R3A" and have the word BESSA on the top. Are the ones that say Bessa on the front just the ones that were produced earlier, or is there some other significance?

It seems like the ones with BESSA on the top are also missing the "Voigtlander Germany Since 1756".

I've had it for about two months now; several rolls of Tri-X and new TMAX 400 have gone through and I'm digging it.

Well i just got my first interchangeable lens rangefinder the other week. A Bessa R3A, with sidegrip and soft release. I also got a second hand 35mm Ultron seperatley for a rediculously cheap price. My first choice would of been a 50mm, but i couldnt pass up the opportunity. Now all i need to do is resist the G.A.S attack, i still dont know how im going to pay my Uni fees this semester! haha

Naruto, I have a Bessa R and a Leica Summitar 2.0f-50mm and an Elmar 2.8f-50mm and I have been afraid to put the lens on the camera because the lens retracts into the camera body. Have you damaged the shutter or do you keep it out all of the time to not damage the shutter? I don't know how much room is available to depress the lens?

I understand taping a Leica but not so sure about taping a Bessa. Don't you tape a Leica so no one thinks it's a Leica? So do you tape a Bessa so that people think it's a Leica pretending not to be a Leica?

summilux - that is a SWEET Bessa. The R2s and R2c are IMO the best looking Bessa's. The CZ gear doesn't hurt either

cjm: thanks, the bessa for S and C mounts are actually a little heavier than the M mount version, and CZ is back with passion. Likes such as biogon 21/4.5, biogon 35/2.8, sonnar 50/1.5 and sonnar 85/2 all had their debut on the Zeiss Ikon Contax RF mount between the 1930s-1950s.
