I wonder what it looks like shot at ISO200. The shadow detail seems to be limited, which makes me wonder if it's not really ISO400 in most developers.

For whatever it's worth, I tend to overexpose by one stop, and then develop normally. But I also shoot a lot indoors in what some might call crap lighting.

Its data sheet is pretty sparse, but I wonder if, like Eastman Double-X (its so-called b&w cine film brother or maybe cousin), ORWO N74+ has a lower exposure index in tungsten compared to daylight. Kodak rates Eastman Double-X as 250 in daylight, and 200 in tungsten (3200K).

That's absolutely gorgeous Dourbalister (so are all your other photos). The OOF areas are made even more beautiful by the low contrast graininess of the film.

Time to give Orwo a try (well, when I've got slightly more important things out of the way!).

I do all my own black and white developing at home.

Thank you, Charles, appreciate the kind words. I think the contrast in the image is a combination of the film and the lens wide open. The headlight has some fine details in the glass, so I wanted to see how the lens performed at f/1.2. There's a touch of softness, yet enough sharpness and detail to read the "sealed beam" lettering.

For whatever it lacks in shadow detail, N74+ seems to hold highlights surprisingly well.

I'd like to try out some ORWO UN54 but seems ORWO USA is always out of the 400' rolls. I want to try reversal processing with it. For now I'll have to order a roll of N74 to play with thanks to the great photos I have seen in this thread.

You could try emailing ORWO NA directly, I found them pretty responsive. The N74+ was listed as out of stock when I purchased back in 2017, but I emailed them directly. George from ORWO responded and let me know when they expected new stock. When it arrived, I was able to order directly through him via email.

Short of that, Film Photography Project has individual cassettes and 100-foot bulk rolls:

Just learned something new about film perforations in this article on emulsive.org. Apparently, ORWO N74+ has oval shaped sprocket holes, known as the BH (for Bell and Howell) shape. There are other film perforation shapes and dimensions as well.

Particularly fine highlight separation in that last pic of the houses, dourbalista. I like the look of the (B&H) sprocket-holes on the edge of the pano frames too. Very enjoyable!
