Tethered Shooting... Capture One Pro? (On Sale)

Any comments on software for tethered shooting with Sony gear? (E and FE mount mirrorless).

In particular, any comments on Capture One Pro for Sony tethered shooting?

It's on sale thru tonight, maybe Sunday morning. In case interested, here's the sale page.

I use C1 at work, but usually with Nikon. I use the full version that works with most camera brands, and in my experience, it tethers easily and works well. I don’t have experience with the Sony-specific version.

Have you downloaded the free 30-day trial?

I'd try it first for free before you plunk down the cash.

You can also check their compatibility list for your cameras, some offer live-view tethering, some don't.

Free trial was a good suggestion.

My interest is in tethered live-view for manual focusing macro for camera-scan of slides & negatives. Secondarily for framing and positioning the original. Capture One Pro Sony would be an alternative to the free Sony "Remote" application. Either or both are alternatives to framing and focusing using the viewfinder/LCD.

What I learned:
- C1 live view works with the A7ii and A6500 but not with the A6000 or A7. Sony "Remote" seems to be the same, probably a camera body limitation. C1 requires turning off Drop Box to tether.
- C1 live view allows you to focus, and the display is pretty snappy. Same for Sony Remote. Shows the image as on the camera viewfinder/LCD, nicely and cleanly, including Sony's 10x focus magnifier. I think the resolution in tethered live-view may be inferior to the viewfinder/LCD, but I'm not sure.
- Tethered live view does not show the focus peaking highlights.

My net: Capture One Pro Sony might help some in positioning my original slide/neg, but won't help me with focusing. Sony Remote appears equivalent for this purpose (didn't look at other functions of either software).

So, I'll keep on using the viewfinder/LCD for focusing my camera-scans.

I use an A6300 tethered on C1 with good results. You can divert the life view window to a secundary screen for better viewing and adjusting the objects you want to photograph. Below A6300 thethering is not supported.
My RX1RII and A7Riii also do fine.
C1 is far superior in the way you can adjust most camara's parameters from the computer.
Furthermore you can use C1's capabilities in naming and storing your photo's directly on any machine in your network.

Yes, I saw those features and functions, but my interest is primarily on focusing in live view.

The sale has been extended to the end of April, so you've got more time to test.
