RFF Euromeet 2016 in Trieste, Italy

Hi everybody,

this year, we, the inofficial planning committee, have decided on the place already, and have narrowed down the available weekends to the following four:
  • 30 Apr/1 May
  • 14/15 May
  • 21/22 May
  • 28/29 May
I have created a Doodle poll for the date decision and have already sent invitations to everybody whose e-mail address I could get my hands on.

Everybody else is welcome to participate, please PM me your e-mail address and I will send you an invitation to the poll.

Best regards,
Georg

Trieste is an interesting town with an "austro-hungarian" feeling in the air...
End of may will travel to Germany...(Wetzlar) but middle may could be possible...let'me check about it.

Our experience from previous RFF Meetings is, that it's always good when a local person is part of the gang and has some nice ideas for sightseeing / cafés / restaurants.
Janko organized a friend from Slovenia who lives not far from Trieste. He has some local knowledge which is great.

As always the RFF Euromeet is not fully organized. But we spend time together, eat, drink, chat about gear, take photos, have fun, make new friends :-)

It looks like it will be either the 14. or the 21. I have to book a flight so I think we should close the poll in 2 or max. 3 weeks.

i think that a week more, to make it 2 weeks altogether, is more than enough for the pool an for everybody to decide...

A bit tricky to reach Trieste from Prague, all options are involving more than 5h (air) or 7-8h (car).

Yes, it's not exactly the center of the world, but that might also make it more interesting...

It's a 9 hour drive from Dresden, by the way... maybe we should have a car pool...?

trieste has a very nice airport, also venice is not really far away to fly-in.
when we fly from slovenia, ljubljana is usually useless as too small, we fly from venice or trieste or zagreb...
just don't tell me heidelberg or gdansk is a better, closer and easier destination to go to

What I found out so far is that it takes roughly 3 hours to go from Venice airport to Trieste (bus and train). I hope I can optimize this.

I think you can get the time down to 2:24, which is still too long compared to driving (1:36 according to Google Maps)...

Venice to Trieste is a pita via public transport, involves a bus to mestre and then a slow train to Trieste. By far it is much quicker with a car. Trieste airport is still not so close to Trieste. I typically fly to Venice and hire a car, but I head up to basovizza to the synchrotron. I hear ljubljana is a better option from within Europe, but I'm normally coming via Dubai.
Unfortunately I won't be in Trieste at that time, but it's one of my favourite places in Europe. Just small enough and just big enough, a little bit Italian, a little Hungarian. A real mixing pot.

Georg, looks like you will have to cancel other plans for 14./15. may, as this is the time frame we are leaning to

Robert, this is great. It's always nice to meet new people.

I just looked up the unofficial rules. A primary participant (= forum member) may bring a rangefinder camera (digital or film) or any other film camera. The rules for guests are not so strict.....

Just kidding, there are no rules.

The Rff meet in Prague 2013 was interesting, because it was almost exclusively film.
