I need a 'not sure' option ... I find self analysis too risky!

scenario example :
- if I pour water halfway to an empty glass, then I think it is half full
- then if I drink water halfway from full glass of water, then think it is half empty

now i am confuse, what kind of person I am..

I used to be more of a glass-is-half-empty person, now I'm more balanced.

the cynic would wonder who draks the other half...

while the realist might say that the glass contains half the water needed to make it overflow, or

as benmacphoto suggests - the glass is twice as big as it needs to be....

my answer is that it is not about whether the glass is half full or half empty, it's about who is paying for the next round

Neither. The glass is imaginary, a silly fantasy that distracts sheeple from looking at the real world with the harsh scrutiny it deserves.

Reminds me of: What if a glass of water was, all of a sudden, literally half empty?

There should be another choice: half empty and certain that someone will either spill the glass or steal it.

an optimistic realist

I've always been an optimistic realist. Usually, when someone says a glass is half full or empty, it's rarely exactly that amount. I try to make visually a more accurate measurement and call it as I see it, with a positive outlook. So I usually say something like, 'the glass is forty-percent full.' I acknowledge the limits and reality, but I feel good about what I have. And as someone else here alluded, be glad you have a glass: it means that there's a potential of a refill.

As another example of this attitude, I remember when I first had dysentery. I was in the U.S. Army National Guard at the time on a two-week outing in the woods. I had it along with several other guys in my company. While they thought it was horrible--which I did concur--I also thought and said at the time that it was an interesting experience and would be fun to describe later. Which it has been.

The glass is just filled to the right level so you can appreciate the bouquet of the wine?

But people do tend to look at you a bit strangely if you drink gin from the bottle. I tried it once in 1966 or so. I don't think I've bothered since.

Drinking Champagne from the bottle tends to require some finesse if it is not to go up your nose, in your eyes, etc., but practice takes care of that.

Cheers,

R.

Many moons ago there was a member here who said something close to this: The glass is half empty- it has toxic waste in it. I just drank the other half, and I am still thisrty.

Edite to add: Found the qoute: "Some people are 'the glass is half full' types. Some people are 'the glass is half empty' types. I'm a 'the glass is full of radioactive waste and I just drank half of it' type. And I'm still thirsty." -- Bill Mattocks

The core question in this forum must be :
What type of glass is it : asph, apo or even apo asph.

My wife calls me "Mr. Negative". I say she is wrong about that. But she's positive.

Truth is that I am very thankful for my half glass of water. Every day.

I'll agree with Paul. And, I'll add that my own policy is to keep two glasses (metaphorically speaking) next to each other; one half full, the other half empty, to hedge my bets.

As I get older, I realize that my native cynicism might be nothing but an enormous consumer of physic energy (with no possible payoff) and that, just maybe, Monty Python was right, as Eric Idle sang at the closing ceremony of the Olympics the other night: "always look on the bright side of life...."

Perhaps one of those two metaphoric glasses is really a novelty store dribble glass.

It depends upon what is in the glass, and how big the glass is.

Since the Olympics I just couldn't settle for half full - might as well have nothing as half full. [McKayla face; plus tears]
