Great picture of the old tug. The vignetting in the corners adds to the effect.

Dunno -- it was part of a story that I did on the West River south of Annapolis, MD. We were moving around on the water and didn't get a chance to ID the type of boat.

Taken in 1955 by my dad, my 8 YO brother driving. Even I wouldn't let my 8 YO do that. But we thought nothing of it then.

Here are three different wooden boats from three different islands. In all three places the traditional boat building skills are slowly disappearing. As someone told me on Fogo Island: "We are six funerals away from not knowing how to build a punt."

1. Shetland

2. Vis, Croatia

3. Fogo Island, Newfoundland

Paul, I have many to post. There is a daily limit...and there are other subjects. However, wooden boats are terribly photogenic. That's because they have souls.

The picture was taken last week at a cruise night of the Manotick Classic Boat Club, on the Rideau River south of Ottawa. Glad you liked it enough to make it a screen saver.
