Sorry for the absent. I am back. More information will be released.

UPDATE:

To all the friends here who are interested in this lens, I am so sorry that I was not able to update anything here in the past few weeks. But don't worry, the maker is still working very hard on this project, the final result is very promising. And the final version will have a big improvement in anti-flare performance, focus smoothness, and include many other details. I will release more information in the following days. Please stay tuned.

Regarding buying this lens, the maker will provide me the details about how and when to order it. I think the first batch will be released at the end of November. But I am sorry that I cannot give you an exact date here. People who leave comments here or send my private messages will be put on the buying list. If more people want to state the willingness to buy the lens, please send your message to the following email address since it's more convenient and easy to organize. My RFF private message box is full now...

[email protected]

Best regards,
Kevin

I am thinking of creating a link for people to put their information on the buying list online. To make it convenient for all of us. But I still need time to figure it out. And more importantly, I need the maker to provide an example of a buying form for personally customized orders so that I could make an online version with all the necessary selections.

So I really wish people could wait until I create an online buying form.

Thanks for all your supports! I am sorry that I cannot reply to each of your comments. But your comments mean a lot to the lens maker and me.

And here is one more photo to show all three paint options in the first batch. Please note that they are still the prototype.

Here is the front ring design. And a real example. "xxxxxxxx" is the space for customization, to allow you to put special engraving on each of your lenses. Personalize it for free.

NOTE: As you can see the real example has 9 space. The maker told me that if the customer really want to put 9 numbers/alphabet on it, they can do that but will adjust the spacing and the size of the engraving to make them fit the space.

I think you can do that. Or even more. You can put 8 or 9 numbers/alphabet on it.

Yes 8 Element would do nicely;

the Chrome is amazing! Very very good looking chrome which is making me rethink my original choice of black paint!

QUESTION: What will be the weight with the chrome in comparison to the Black Paint?
It really is a a great project!

I like the option to personalize the lens, Kevin.

Could be: Raid Amin or 8 Element or SPECIAL ...

Good question!

All the first batch 8-element Replica comes in solid brass, weight around 230g.

And all the lenses will include brass made front and rear metal lens cap. With the front and rear caps on, the total weight of the lens will be around 350g. The maker plan to thinner the front and rear cap, to reduce the overall weight down to 330g.

Yeah, Raid. You can start thinking of what you want to put on your lens to make it special.

Good question!

The final version of the Replica 8-element does have aperture click stops, just like the original one.

The maker choose the unevenly spaced aperture scale style for a reason. It is related to the meniscus type of the aperture blade. In order to make the bokeh in round shape from f/2.0 all the way down to the smallest aperture, the current replica 8-element is using meniscus type aperture blades. The original aperture blade is a straight edge type so that the aperture blade movement distance will be different.

I agree. Perhaps it's just this particular picture, but the chrome seems very close to the original, whereas the BP looks a bit "washed out".

Kevin: if that's not too much too ask, could we perhaps get hi-res pictures of the various finishes when they are 100% ready for prime time?
Thanks again - great job!

On a separate note, it will be fun to see how folks will use those 9 characters. I bet some will be pretty creative

Thank you for your support! I guess the reason that the pictures give you a bit “washed out” feel is the lighting. I will try to find and upload a few more pictures to show you the black paint.

Still in for the brass but crumbs that chrome looks incredible. If some options like multi coating are introduced later I can easily see people picking up multiple versions.

And the front ring customisation is a lovely touch 👍

Sorry, I think it won't work. Not because of any other reason, simply because it is over 9 character limit. As long as your engraving are within the 9 numbers/alphabet limits, they will engrave for you with no extra cost.

I like the way this guy thinks. The 8-element Summicron is one of those lenses whose bokeh gets smoother when you stop down 2 stops.

What city is Light Lens Lab based in? I'd customize the front ring to say "LIGHT LENS LAB CITY 000/500 SUMMICRON 1:2 35".
