Optics Theory - This forum is aimed towards the TECHNICAL side of photographic OPTICS THEORY. There will be some overlap by camera/manufacturer, but this forum is for the heavy duty tech discussions. This is NOT the place to discuss a specific lens or lens line, do that in the appropriate forum. This is the forum to discuss optics or lenses in general, to learn about the tech behind the lenses and images. IF you have a question about a specific lens, post it in the forum about that type of camera, NOT HERE.

tele extenders and fixed lens cameras

I know I am about to make a fool of myself.

I have a 1.4x afocal teleconverter lens that I use in front of my fixed lens compact camera with good results, and now I want to increase the reach.
what happens if I add a 2x tele extender to the mix?
The tele-extender will be placed between the afocal converter and camera lens.
I understand that an extender is designed to go between the lens and the film (sensor), but could it also be used between two separate glass elements? In this case, camera's fixed lens and the afocal converter? And what would the results look like? A nice black frame with a blurry circle at the center?
I don't have access to an extender at the moment. So my question is for those lens experts who know optical laws- unlike me

Thank you!
P.s. Is there a rule about repeat posts? I usually get annoyed when I see the same posts in different forums and now I'm doing the same. But they sure attract different crowds. Anyhow; here too:
