I second that, but can't imagine this lens compares to the Planar. I put in an offer regardless.

What if the 50/1.1 is very sharp at aperture 2.0?

Thanks.

Do you have a CV 50/1.1 or 50/1.5 for comparison?

Sorry Raid I don't have a CV 50/1.1 or 50/1.5 for comparison.
I just took it out of box minutes ago, need time to play around and get some kind of impression. I jokingly call it the poor mans Noctilux.

yeah saw this one too. Prefer the one in this thread for the full frame coverage, but I love seeing this new wave of off brand glass.

If it starts getting good at f2 why not just buy a Planar? It's a lot to carry if you can't use it at 1.1.

I don't "need" another 50mm lens as I have many excellent lenses. It may interest me what a Chinese new lens is like. I have three Summicrons 50/2.

My Planar seems to do pretty good wide open and my Elmar does even better.

Besides, I have bought into the concept that sharpness is a bourgeoisie concept.

It makes me feel better about all those slightly out of focus prints I get when I put my negatives in the enlarger.

I also have enough 50mm lenses lying around. I am pretty positive I could use a new one every day of the month and not have used them all by the time the month comes to an end. At least that is what my wife tells me.

It is a Sonnar design lens, and Sonnar lenses are not meant to have a max aperture of 1.1, I think. It may show OOF rendering similar to what you get from fast lenses from the 1950's or earlier.

It's odd that they're only best offering their black version listings.

I just checked: they have silver and black for $320 shipped. It is not at Amazon.
Price per lens becomes $310.40 if you order more than 100 lenses

When I made the offer the seller responded back asking if I would accept the silver version, I declined, they then said Black is Okay and accepted the offer.
If you want a silver version for that price maybe give them a shot.

I'll be in SZ next week for work and hope to stop at 7artisans. Curious to see their office, and possibly get one of their M lenses.

http://www.7artisans.com/en/col.jsp?id=101

Is anybody here able to translate the address for me?

Perhaps you can meet up with this local SZ blogger, who just visited another local camera company office, and share the video

Yesterday, I have seen some smartly done tests via link provided on Leica forum. At 1.1 your choice of focus for H&S portrait is eyebrows or eyelashes. Contrast is lower, but OK. If focused on texture, like text, corners are weird at 1.1. While central part is sharp and clean enough right from wide open.
And more examples I see, more strange lens OOF rendering feeling I get with outdoor shots on large apertures. It is like door viewer converted to the lens pictures I have seen.

Brian suggeste to use an orange filter with this lens on a Monochrom. The contrast will improve then.
