Zenit M available in the US

Ships from Sunny San Francisko

https://zenit.store/products/zenit-m...SABEgLi7PD_BwE

$8000 including the 35mm f1.0. Looks like a digital M5 to me. As we all know the M5 is the best film kamera ever made, ergo the Zenit M will be the best digital kamera ever made.

Is the price krazy? Well, the Zenit M is a great kamera as the M240 is a great kamera. And this will be really unique and much more kollektible than almost any digital Leica, and the only way (for now...) to get that lens.
I'm waiting for the black one to be released before I order.

Kuestiknable kuality? It is made in Wetzlar by the same komrads who make the kapitlalist Leikas.

ps black to match my M5 but it is more satisfying to type krome!

Russian design kan be excellent. Russian konstruktion may be problematik.

This is made in Germany by Leika. Not sure if that is a positive.

(the lens is designed and built in Russia and perhaps is the most interesting part)

Leika may be no match for Leica.
The lens is not worth an investment of $8000 for the set, Kollege Huss.

Not sure what that means but I have some Zenit lenses I really like.

The M240 is bulletproof so the Zenit M will benefit from that cased in a bad a$$ Leica M5-esque shell.

When I have the disposable income.... that black brute will be mine!

Is this bit lost in translation, or is it an LTM digital camera?

Does anyone here have the specs of the lens? Is it as good as a Lux, say?

Yeah, that's pretty much a mistake. Easy to overlook though.

Huss, if you're waiting on the black model, you better be ready to jump the moment they come out because I believe that 500 unit figure is combined chrome/black.

It is a Leica with a kooler body shape. Limited to 500 pieces.
How much would Leica charge for this if it was labelled Leica instead of Zenit?
$25000?

The lens is really interesting. I'm thinking in a year or so it will be a regular production item, because I don't see them designing this thing and only make 500 of them.

For 8 grand, I expect at lease 5 cases of Vodka with the bundle as a perk to numb paying the credit card bill.

$8,000?

For $8,000, I'd demand it had the correct Zenit shutter speed range of 1/30th-1/500th, that it weigh a ton, and be solid enough to use as a weapon against muggers and be able to take a photo of the mugger's corpse afterwards.

I always said this of my Bronica s2a "you could beat a village to death with it, then take photos of the massacre with it"

Also, I think this is the best looking M camera, I really like the design. Anyone wanna get me one? That'd be stellar.

Well that got dark.

I like to think I can crush a whole tonne of grapes with mine, make wine, then photograph people drinking it and celebrating!

Yeah, that Barnack design of shutter (via FED and Zorki) was a classic and had a long production run from 1925 to 2004.

Although something of a success on the rallying circuit things like the Estelle had a poor reputation in the UK at least. They were cheap but generally unreliable though in their defence many did not really try to look after them.

A butt of many jokes...'What do you call a convertible Skoda? A skip (dumpster).'

Not even sure how this collab works - I get the lens, but zenit cameras are the results of letting tractor engineers make cameras

Easy there. Ferruccio Lamborghini was a tractor engineer before he created his empire of amazing, futuristic and beautiful cars. And the company still makes tractors. They don't make cameras, but they probably could make a decent one.

OK, Zenit is maybe an easy target, but overall I have a lot of respect for Soviet/Russian products. (Wearing a Vostok Komandirskie automatic watch as I write this.) Quality control was historically the weak link of course. And I don't think anyone would say Russian/Soviet optics were ever bad designs.

But this is a lot of money, and we've certainly seen a lot of exciting ideas on this forum that don't fall well short of expectations. But at least Zenit is not a fly by night outfit -- hope this works out for them. But still, $8K is a lot.
