Patience?

I ordered from him Sept 11 and still have not received product. I wanted it for Christmas and thought it was soon enough to order. He sent an email in early December saying it was posted. Still not here, no response. Would not order again.

I seriously doubt if anyone could make a decent living in the Western world selling camera coverings full time, except maybe a semi-retired person, so you gotta have some kind of day job--like Morgan does. Add in some kind of "life" and you get precious few minutes a day leftover for this kind of endeavor.

Unhappy customers are a given when they expect the same kind of delivery as they get from full time stores, etc. I had some stuff from him delivered ASAP and others were delayed, but my life didn't hang on it because I had other cameras. However, the quality or ultimate delivery/ integrity was never compromised.

However, I expect this thread will never end.

I ordered the red kidskin for my iiig in November. Several of my emails went unanswered, but the kidskin did arrive and is beautiful. Morgan told me that he is swamped with orders from Asia. The kidskins have to be individually cut.
I guess that it is the lack of response to emails that is the hardest part to understand.

I hope that you get yours soon.
Thanks for the info. Hope mine will come tomorrow or within next week.
M6 is not my only M, but sometime I enjoy use it more than M2 (as mine has M3 style Lever)

I went ahead and ordered the new skin for my Argus C3 from CameraLeather...
I'll wait whatever it takes for it to get here, it's not a camera I'm using at the moment so no big rush...
The front of the camera is ready but the back still has the original covering on it...
I just know it's going to look so cool when it's done...

"Swamped with orders from Asia" sounds like Youxin's exhibition in Beijing may have caused a stir. There was a large collection there and from the photos, some had custom coverings, all were beautiful. I'd say that the market is opening up a little bit more and both Morgan and the existing RF community are just feeling the pressure.
I plan on ordering a Griptac covering for my M8 and should I ever lose the vulcanite on my M4, it will get covered in a black leather with a good grain. I don't think that I'd shop anywhere else considering the reviews I've heard of CameraLeather's products.

Made an order in last June which never arrived. In October I mailed him about it and the kit came a week later. The leather itself was indeed satisfactory so that I went out to make another order the same week.

In November I mailed him expressing my concerns over a possible delay and was told that the kid skin kits take time to be made in UK and mine's coming very soon. So I waited on - for another two months.

I mailed him again this morning about this second order. I'm in no hurry and I do still trust him...just hope I could finally get to dress my OM1 up this time.

The exotics are worth the wait.

Here's CameraLeather's antique white cobra skin on my Om-1:

http://www.rangefinderforum.com/phot...3&ppuser=20714

BTW, I went for Griptac on my last order.

http://www.rangefinderforum.com/phot...1&ppuser=20714

If Morgan ever decides to gets pattern up,
I'll happily apply Griptak to my Leica CL.

Going on 2 months without a peep! No way to run a business. This will be my last purchase from this guy even if it is nice.

-I did not order anything exotic and it was only 1 covering for my MP

I think most people are reasonable and patient, and can understand delays. And I have not seen anyone question his honesty or integrity. However, I think that it is the lack of response, rather than the delays, that is most disconcerting. A quick reply - "I'm sorry, but we are so overbooked that it will probably be 3 months before we can fill your order" - would be satisfactory, and would probably result in a significant decrease in the amount of email inquiries, giving him more time to work on those orders. Anyway, it is what it is. There aren't so many options, so you either accept it, or do without...

This from the cameraleather website --

"Folks, we are struggling under an avalanche of email; more than 1100 messages are in the reply queue after the Thanksgiving Holiday. We are now devoting more time to email than production, a situation that we will have to change, one way or another."

This might explain the lack of response.

He also says he is working on ways to sort out the emails from folks with orders.

2 weeks more, still not getting mine!
And no emails back. No info, nothing in mail.

For next time I better get some good covering leather and send it to aki-asahi for laser cutting.

Well, where's the photos? I found an Argus 3 not far from the house at an antique shop for like $40 and sure would like to see yours. Might entice me to trade something in exchange for a cool camera like yours.

I ordered covering for a Canon P around 7-10 days ago from Morgan.
Got an email today that it shipped.
I've never had a problem with him returning my emails either.

The quality of his stuff, great. (my experience)

Going 6 weeks after payment without responding to any of the e-mails sent to him: Not so great. (also my experience)

Aki-Asahi has always been ultra-responsive with either the product or a message and refund if the covering was no available as advertised.

That Cobra skin is so outrageous I'm tempted to find a camera that needs recovering just so i can get some
Does it wear ok? Morgan makes a note that it's not for "a camera that is used heavily."
It certainly looks good an an OM-1

M6 has been naked for a month!
I ordered a black snake skin kit for my S2 bay in November and sent at least 3 emails from the time I recieved the comfirmation email that the paypal payment was maid, over the next 3 months.. Heard nothing during that time.. FINALLY heard back from Morgan saying my leather as shipped.. I wasn't sure during that tim between th paypal confirmation and delivery whether I was being screwed or not.. Kind of stressful.

Once I got the leatherette and stripped my S2, the front two sections fit nice and snug, but the back leather was just slightly too small.. Not noticeable excet under close inspection, but, because I know it's too small, it bothers the hell out of me..

As you can see from the photo, the front looks nice, but the back sides, constantly pop out.. I've glued them once, and recently the sides popped out again.. Disappointing..

This happens when you do not clean the 50 year old residue off of the camera before you install the new leather!

I bought a few Leica coverings -- popular models like the M2 and IIIc -- and they arrived within twn days to two weeks, excellent quality. But I've been waiting into the sixth week plus for my Linhof Tech 4 covering and he does not answer emails asking for an idea of when?

I suspect he is swamped and can ship stuff he does a head of time, like GripTac for M and LTM bodies. Odd stuff has to wait to be cut. Not happy about the lack of communication but I trust him at the same time.
