Hmm, as far as I know the oldest still existing photograph was made in 1825 by Nicéphore Niépce, a copy of an engraving, a reproduction of a drawing in fact.

But old photographs are fascinating indeed.

I always try to make my photographs as old as possible.

It was a very cold beautiful morning. I looked at this one for a very good long time. The Caribou were loudly bellowing the entire time.

Twenty five years ago I had a semi-permanent studio in my apartment. This is the Norma 8x10 rig I was using to create B&W portraiture.

I inherited a mostly complete, basic darkroom setup about a year ago. This week I finally had the time and space to set it up. Here are a few hits and misses from my first afternoon.

Things went okay, but there were a few issues. One was some yellowing on the prints, which a search suggests is the result of incomplete rinsing? The other is the white spots in the corner of the prints. I think something must be misaligned or knocked loose in the enlarger and is blocking light? Need to investigate further.

But overall it was a great experience. I thank this thread especially for giving the motivation to give this a try!

...for metering your shots? Or are you very good at estimating?

Thank you, misterb.

Some of my cameras have lightmeters in them (MP, M5) but usually I estimate. B+W is very forgiving. I always use the same film. That helps too.
