Yes. Thanks, Helen. Gibson was just becoming known about the time I became interested in photography. Selections from his first books were published in photo magazines of the day and I've admired his work since then. He has always been an inspiration. I bought "The Black Trilogy" last month when it came available.

He is known to use TRIX 400 pulled to 100 ~ 200 iso. And develop in Rodinal. The time is 1+25 for 7 or 11 minutes, this is based on the old TRI-X formula.
This is from our member [email protected]; I wonder if he didn't use a deep red filter on some shots too.

In the interview I watched I seem to remember he said he uses digital these days. Great images whatever |

Many years ago I bought a copy of “The Somnamubulist” and was entranced by Mr. Gibson’s work. Somewhere along the way in one of his books or in an interview he was praising Leica cameras with the statement, “one could wander the world equipped with only a Leica and a 50mm lens and be totally happy.” At that point I became a rangefinder user and a few years later realized my dream of owning an M3 and 50mm Summicron. Hooray to him!

I love Ralph Gibson's photographs.
I was once allowed after one of his shows had ended, been allowed by the gallery, to vew all of them, albeit leaned against a wall.
Sadly, perhaps due to RG's age, since getting the monochrom, there are no special images..
I noticed this with other "famous" photographers.
Guess i've started a war!  |

perhaps it was because he has been waiting 7 months to get his sensor replaced.
(but we all know the truth is that shooting on film is where the soul and inspiration lies..) |

One of my inspirations, along with music. I met him at the NYC Javits Center years ago in the late '80s at a photo show. He was signing but no one showed up except myself! We yakked about Leicas. He was nice enough to inscribe my copy of In Situ "Dear Steve - keep using that IIIc!"
A wonderful man and a really good guitarist.
I will probably get the book.

I read in a magazine article long ago that he was using the enlarger that Robert Frank had given him and that Robert had printed the prints for his book The Americans on it
