Hist of photography in 3 words

It occured to me that the history of modern photography could be encapsulated in three words:

- Grain
- Dye Cloud
- Noise

OK, so technically it's 4 words

I must be feeling cynical this evening, because my first thought for a three-word history of modern photography was, "It's mostly crap!" (Present company excepted, of course!)
