I didn’t take this picture. We found a box of old Kodachrome slides from the 1940’s and 50’s in a box at work. I took them home and scanned. This is of a winter snowshoeing expedition into the Porcupine Mountain State park, in Michigan. The cabin, at Mirror Lake, is still there (and can still be rented).

Jim,
Have you seen the cabin? I wonder if it is still in its original condition?
Spotted a few this spring that were getting resided and you could see the old timber cottage still there under it all. I know a ton of them around our families cabin have been covered over and added onto to be more or less 4 season homes.

Yes, I have hiked by this cabin in past years. It was built in 1947 and is pretty much the same now as you see in the photo. It can be rented, though you have to backpack in all of your stuff several miles. No road access.
The guys in the photo had to have snowshoed in ten miles one-way, maybe longer, to get to the Mirror Lake cabin. An impressive feat!

Near the great divide outside Buena Vista Colorado. The collegiate peaks, most of which are 14,000 feet or so.
