"Film Dating" - find the perfect film soulmate ...

I did not see this posted here before (I searched) so it may be of some interest or at least amusement.

https://www.oneyearwithfilmonly.com/film-dating

For those who care, it says I'm a perfect match to hook up with Lomo 800.

Funny. I'd like to see the whole pool of possibilities and the selection algorithm.
That said, I'm an HP5 person according to the site. Not a bad result since I prefer Tri-X but they are reasonably similar. I use them interchangeably.
My true favorite is Plus-X but it is sadly gone.

I'm assuming it's some kind of tree that's traversed from the root to a single leaf.

I did notice that the first decision takes you down either a B&W or color branch.

It's very difficult, for me, anyway, to not consider the content or composition of the images, although I tried.

Absolutely. They could have had a better test if all the photos were exactly the same, but then they would be harder to actually judge from one another. Or...
Is this a case of the actual subject leading to the type of film used? Street photos tend to be with faster films, probably higher contrast. So, I look at a street photo or a window-lit portrait and pick those, but those are cases in which a 400 ISO film excels. Food for thought. Maybe the tail wags the dog, so to speak?

Same here. And by going through it several times, selecting shots I liked about equally well, It first said I need Delta 3200; TMax 100 (Gave up on it years ago); and then Tri-X. I like Tri-X, but my favorites are actually Plus-X (no longer made, but it should have guessed FP-4); and the Ilford Delta films.

Somebody on APUG just posted a link to a summary on this:

https://petapixel.com/2017/07/22/top...photographers/

Kinda surprised that Cinestill 50 made the top 10.

Well it says Fomapan 400 for me - must know I'm a cheapskate. Didn't have out-of-date traffic film on there but the Foma's about right.

I haven't gotten my results, so I'm assuming my ISP snagged them in its spam filter.

Even so, I'm mainly a slide shooter, even now, so the test doesn't apply well to me. The author speaks of Fuji losing to Kodak, which I think is probably quite true when it comes to color negative film, but Fuji is the only big player, at present, in the production of slide film. I hope they continue to offer Provia 100, at the very least, well into the future.

FYI, you don't have to enter your email address.

Btw, I got Tmax 100 & Fuji PRO 400H. I use Fuji PRO but I guess will have to try Tmax 100.

Dating bs aside. I used almost nothing but Plus-X for years in 135, but used FP-4 in 4X5. It's not the same as plus -x, but worth testing if you haven't. I also use a fair amount of Fuji Neopan Acros. I really like it, but have been reading about Fuji cutting back on film and paper manufacturing. I don't know if it's true? Ilford is likely to be around for a while. I think they are profitable and growing.

You don't need to enter an email address. Just click the close box, and it goes away, then you can click the 'Show Me' button.

EDIT: Whoops, I see that's been said before.
