Don't talk to me about an M10. I struggled to get the M (262) and I'm happy.

One day I wil be rich! Then I will buy two M10 cameras!
Until then, I focus on lenses.

There should be a Leica Law that says:

"Leica will not sell any camera which has a sensor which will need to be replaced within a length of time which a cheaper camera would be expected to last, including cameras that cost £50."

There ought to be a Leica Law that Says...

"...on a black camera replace the red dot with a black dot, and if you can't find a black dot then find a piece of black tape."

I think the red dot looks great on the chrome, but I find it just plain annoying on black cameras. Of course, they can take the same photos and I love the cameras in general though. ;-)

You can order a black dot from DAG.

I've been hanging round here for at least a decade and still no-one has explained to me whether I have to get a red dot before I can put black tape on my MDa

Since Leica is now for the 1% this ‘law’ wouldn’t apply to very many folks.

I am retired so no needless expenses and all too soon obsolete.
The reason why I will never get a digital Leica - it's obsolete the sooner it gets out of the factory. Like a car - the reason why I never buy I new one... I have bought a new car before, but NEVER again.

Perhaps not a law but a rule: Never sell anything Leica. You'll only buy it back again at a higher price :-)

You have to use red tape.

# 1 shutter will not release if lens cap is on.

#2 can not wind past 36

#3 Camera sounds alarm if pointed toward sun

#4 People with little money should never buy a "cheap" used one. They always need expensive repairs.

The Leica watches make no sense to me; they are going to cost as much or more than a premium Swiss chronometer made by Breitling, Panerai or Rolex.

A joint venture by Rolex and Leica resulting in a GMT Master II with a red bezel, red face (possibly offering white as a second option) and the jubilee bracelet with the Leica logo laser etched into the watch back would have been a Leica connoisseur's dream watch.

Rolex forbids any change from the standard provided!
Tiffany Jewelers used to print their name on dial.
Tiffany insisted, Rolex stopped all sales...
Maybe Tiffany have them again,BUT no name on dial.
Even changing color of sweep second hand would result in service and repairs, as "watch not authentic". There!

I use my Leica cameras and lenses to make photographs, not to listen to or follow some arbitrary pundits' notion of rules, humor, or irony, or to show off that I can afford them. They're simply the best cameras and lenses I've owned, both digital and film, and make the photos I want. Better than any of the other cameras I've owned.

I'm happy with my current Leica bodies: No need for an M10.

A foreman I used to work for came back from a Mexican vacation with a $50 Rolex. One of the crew was looking closely at it, and in a joke shaming way said "Oh look, it even says Rolodex".

At least no one has ever called one of my FSU cameras a "Leiki".

There are two possible ideas when it comes to rules. One perspective is that rules were made to be broken. The other view is that the only rule is that there are no rules.

Me, I like em both :-)

I had huge misgiving about selling my Leica R 90 2 Summicron lens. It was the best lens that I ever owned for portraits, was very compact, and had fantastic build quality. It was like something NASA might have built, only better. But for a tenth of what I sold it for I bought a Makinon Macro 135 2.8 lens that is actually better for portraits and has smoother bokeh to boot. Who knew? Selling Leica gear is not always a regret, but it is always a roll of the dice as to what will replace it.

As for an M10, I wouldn't want one if you gave it to me. I've said this many times and still believe it...... a good $50 film camera loaded w/ Tri-X and developed properly will give better B&W shots than any digital camera ever made (as well as outstanding colour slides), and you can print those Tri-X negs in a darkroom on Adox MCC 110 fiber paper. It honestly doesn't get any better than that.

A lot of MF/LF photographers would disagree. It all depends on your preferences and perspective.

  • You must wash your hands before you touch an M10.
  • You must whisper "Unglaublich schön!" when you touch an M10.
  • When putting down an M10, it must face Wetzlar.
  • An M10 must be displayed on a Steinway grand piano when your dentist friends visit.

All I know is that when I shot some frames with one at the SF Leica store, I immediately wanted one.

Also, Leica should just dump the red dot and go to the "-P" script top, as our bartender said.

M10 in the OP's post must have been a typo. Should have read MM, shoots in both colors (Black and White) and no red dot on that camera

No Leica M can leave the factory without the wonderful engraved Leica Script on the top plate.
That means repaired Leicas without the Leica script would get new engraved Leica script top plates as a public service to all personkind.

That stupid ugly Red Dot must be replaced by the better looking Black Dot.

Leica reviewers who are bad photographers MUST be totally ignored regardless of their technical excellence.
If all their smarts did not help their photography, what good are they?

EDIT:

The M10-P took care of my M10 gripes nicely, and even added a marvelously quiet shutter - quieter than even the M film shutter!!

Well done! Now ... if only was 5K dollars cheaper.
