Smile Leica Summicron 35/2 Eight Element copy made in China

I guess not many of us have seen this sample. I tested it this morning. It is an exact copy of the original Leica summicron with better coating though. By "exact", it means same lens design, inside and out.

It's a test sample, so the black paint is a bit rough. We are testing the opticals and build quality.

And yes, the Nikon 50mm f2 is coupled with Leica.

First time I've heard of something like this. Obviously the 8 element design is pretty old. Does it render like the real deal? I wonder if this will lead to counterfeits.

Whoa, I am intrigued. Whats the likelihood of this being produced? I would definitely be interested in such a lens. Please upload some examples from the lens when you can!

I don't think it says, "Leica." It looks like "Light Lens Lab" on my screen.

As long as it is not sold as Leica, I couldn't see why not.
Every time I see 35mm lens in small size, with focus tab and 39mm filter, I want one

Not a terrible idea, patents have expired, is there any other obstacle to marketing something like this?
Including the word "copy" in the thread title would have made things clearer

I want a rangefinder coupled adapter for the 8 element Super Takumar 50mm f/1.4. or any of the radioactive fast Takumars for that matter.
That said, completely copying this optic is a cool idea.

People have been adapting 50s for a long time now. I have a Pentax-M 50 1.4 that I adapted back in around 2012. For that lens it is pretty easy. There is a thread about adapting the Pentax lenses by Roland (Ferider) back from around that time. He is the one that came up with the idea for the Pentax 50, and figured out how to do it.

As far as the Leica copy goes, well, that aught to be interesting. I might be game for one. Crazy stuff coming out of China these days.

Might want to consider making it a screw mount lens with an adapter, or at least have that as an option.

Black paint seven element rigid 50 Summicron next please. Leave off the infinity lock.

I had a nice 8 element 35/2, but sold it to a collector. This lens I would be fine about using as hard as I liked.

For a copycat this is quite original and interesting.

Why? Because you have original already, could afford Leica remake?
I and many if not most cannot afford it. And many, if not most of us, don't need fancy and new looking.
We need proven optic formula lens with normal build and compact size under low price.
I'm not into trying something new, just because it is new.
If it is affordable remake of something which is overpriced, bring it on. I'll use it for real rf photography then. Take it out under rain, dust, freeze or heat.

+1.
A replica of something that is no longer made, expensive or rare is in no way dishonorable as long as it's for use rather than for pretending to own something it's not. That's not to say I don't welcome more newly designed lenses.

Also it's a bit rude to simply assume a "mentality" from one project presented here.

I would definitely be interested in third party recreations of Leica lenses of yore (assuming of course that all intellectual property laws are stringently followed). Cool stuff.

I like this idea. It's almost like the camera equivalent of a Ford Gt40 replica. There just aren't that many of the real article around and if the quality of the replica is good, should satisfy a lot of people.

at the moment, the factory is still not able to mass produce this lens. The assembling process is really challenging.
As for the price, it will be less then 500 USD.

I would also be interested in learning more about this lens. Is there more information elsewhere, or sample photos taken with it?

no persional offense here,
me myself found this project interesting already.
not that I need it cause I got 2 authentic Leica 35mm lenses already
but the efforts that one try to remake or make new (7artisan eg) products at reasonable price are amazing, really.

Can you post full rez pics? Too small to see anything with these. One way to do it is to upload to flickr, then post the flickr link.

The 7A 35 f2 is $260. Voigtlander 35 f2.5 is $409.

Tough marketplace!

The eight element remake will not share same target customers with 7A, but the maker of this lens wanna the price to be 1/6 of the original ones.
