Arrow EUROMEET 2014, Gdansk, 17-18th.May

So, the discussions and polls have come up with a trip to Gdansk over the weekend of 17th.May.

I have copied, below, the early posts about details of the Gdansk trip by Janko and Tom. Putting the details in this thread gets them out of the way of the no-longer-needed polls and reduces the amount of redundant information.

The Wiki historical page for Gdansk is here.

The Gdansk tourist organisation page, in English, is here.

Weather statistics for Gdansk are here.

One Euro is approximately 4,2 Zloty.

Poland is, of course, within the Schengen area.

Just a bump for the thread . . .

And wondering who might have visited Gdansk previously? There is a great historical side to the Hanseatic and free-trade port, plus the more recent political Solidarnosc activities. I suspect that there will be more evidence to be seen for the first area than the second, except that without the second we would not be able to photograph the first of course.

As well as small pensions and hostels, there are also a few campsites out of the central area, most are near public-transport and could be an acceptable alternative.

I'd really like to come and probably will be able to make it. I'm a native polish speaker but unfortunately can't help out flat-wise because I don't live there but I might be handy when it comes to translation
btw beer is pretty inexpensive in Poland 1,50 to 2 euros

Thanks Kully. Why not Paris.

You did the drawing with the Paper-App, right?

2nd EuroMeet in a row that I'll miss - shame as I really like the idea of Gdansk but work gets in the way sometimes. Perhaps next year, in Paris, with wine, moonlight...and Kully

Well, with such an evocative logo I think it's probably time for a map?

At this link there is a bare Google-map of gdansk and surroundings. Last year we filled in the map of Prague with locations of interesting sites and where we were staying, meeting and so on. It's probably a good plan to do something similar again. If I have screwed up the permissions while making the link, please post here and l'll try to fix it!

It seems that my clever Google-map link doesn't work . . . I will have a further play with that this weekend. Oops.

And yes, let's not all be shy about our encyclopaedic photo-historic knowledge of Gdansk. Anyone?

If we knew everything already, then there would be no point in going there!

Well, I've booked my flight (arriving Friday in the early evening, leaving Sunday around the same time)...

Now I'm looking for a hotel - any tips?

Martin - is that map up yet?

I've shared a map with you called Gdańsk.

Ok, currently it sort of works again (fourth attempt this evening) but is zoomed in to an unnecessary level. I'll have to do better to match the one for Prague. I think there may be an advanced interface which I used last year and which I have managed to misplace right now. Or something. Possibly the wind is in the wrong direction at the moment.

I think the advanced feature of last year just got turned into the regular Google Maps layout. Or something.

Never mind, I found a hotel now, and I guess we'll manage to arrange for a breakfast spot without the latest technology...

Not yet, but I can help with that (just going through this thread):

MartinP
jane7l
P3tr
Vobluda
kossi008
tom.w.bn (maybe)
mretina (maybe)
santino (maybe)
javabean (???)
jippiejee (???)

I've listed everyone who posted in the affirmative, left out everyone who thinks it highly unlikely to attend, put "maybe" after those not sure yet and "???" after those stating interest but not intent. Sorry if I got anything wrong or forgot anybody. Please feel free to correct the above list...
