Fuji X-E2: Anyone excited?

I'm pretty excited about the rumored Fujifilm X-E2. Looks like they've made enough upgrades to the camera to the point that I would consider it "complete". I liked my X-E1, but the X-E2 looks really good.

Not really... seems like a very incremental upgrade to me.

The AF system, better LCD and full manual video are a pretty big deal to me, which is why I'm excited!

if you're right and that's all the upgrades they made, then yes, I am excited because it means I'm saving $500 by not getting it and getting an xe1 instead

If on the other hand they squeezed a VF4 in there and reduced the coverglass on the sensor, then I'm getting an xe2.

What is a VF4?

I think I got the code right... its the latest and probably best EVF for this type of camera, same thing that leica uses.

I would be excited and would buy one if it had an OVF. But it doesn't... and I'm not.

I wonder if Fuji will ever make another OVF/ EVF body?

sounds like a logical and very desireable upgrade. I'll have to see what I can get for the xe1 before I jump though... Probably will bite the bullet...I love the little darling so much ;:-), I'll want to upgrade it.

Good solid incremental improvement. Not enough of a change from the X-E1 that I'd upgrade. That much improvement again in an X-E3 and I would probably upgrade.

Pretty good detailed writeup on the handling and menu differences between the xe1 and xe2.

Having the phase detect AF and the faster EVF refresh rate is probably enough for me to want to buy one. Maybe not a day one purchase, but probably one of those "wait for one of Fuji's sales" type of things.

Coming from an X-Pro1, I'm curious to what Fuji is planning to do with the next X-Pro, especially after Sony showed off the A7. If the next X-Pro is an incremental upgrade like the X-E, I may consider just buying an X-E2 and keeping the X100 for OVF.

Hey, I just noticed you're that CamCrunch guy...

Personally, I'd only be excited if it had a few more MP. There's a huge difference between the output of my X100 (12mp) and 5D III (22mp). I make big prints and 16mp just is not enough compared to what else is available on the market. Although more expensive, the new Sony Alpha line is going to have a massive impact on the market and for a pro to have a two body kit of the A7 and A7R, so with flexibility on AF and resolution, and use Leica glass... and Canon (and I'm in both systems). Wow.

I had been thinking about the Xpro 2 (assuming it had maybe 24mp), but now think I'll sell my X100 and a few other bits and pieces and jump into bed with Sony. They're offering exactly what I have been waiting for.

I hardly use the OVF of my pro. I do need faster AF. If it is fast enough I'll ditch my Canons:-)

I'm a fairly new X-E1 use (long term X100), I love the camera and the lenses. As I got mine refurbished from Fuji UK for a very good price I don't think the improvements in the X-E2 are worth the extra money. I'm hoping that future firmware updates to the X-E1 will make it even better (as with the latest X100 update).

That said, for street/travel, a 24-28MP APSC sensor will be plenty IMO and I'd hope the XPro-2 will be in this ballpark. Looks like those fuji lenses will easily be able to lay down the detail needed by such a sensor.

With fine detail in photosm with the need to stand up to close scrutiny, my experience is that:

12 MP is great for A3+
20 MP is great for A2
18 Mp Leica Monochrom is great for A1

Oxygen

I am an X Pro-1 owner and I am not excited because Sony just sucked all the oxygen out of the room with their new full frame camera. I keep thinking what Fuji might be thinking. I hope Fuji is taking note and we will see something from them soon.

At this point I'm hoping the X-Pro2 is going to be FF and will be a fast camera. I'm not into camera competitions generally, but the new Sony has to have Fuji thinking.

i'm a huge fuji fan...but the shadow of the A7r is just looming to large for me to be excited about anything else. FF, 36mp, no AA, microlens structure supporting RF lenses, big bright vf, 1/8000 SS--my head is exploding!

The X-E1 didn't excite me, not does the X-E2. If I were able to use my X-Pro1 to its full potential I would be excited.

some other cameras that undeservedly got lost in the shuffle: panasonic gm1, sony rx10, fuji xq1.

Why is everyone so certain the X Pro 2 is going to be FF? I thought the way the mount was designed would make it physically impossible/exceptionally difficult to engineer something like simply stuffing a bigger sensor in instead of the APS-C one (I remember some Fuji exec saying this, but I could be mistaken).

Something to do with the overall mount size or flange distance vs lens elements necessary to cover full-frame images (ie: oblique rays in the corners or vignetting)...

Sounds like a good idea...can't be too far behind.

Still... I think I will be falling in lust with an xe2 if it takes too long :-)

Who says they have to use the same lenses... Sony just split their mirrorless lineup into APSC and FF versions. Why can't Fuji do the same?

It was already selling for as low as $500 before the announcement.
