Quick shot at night, didn't have a tripod so I just upped it to ISO 6400 and shot at f/2 soooo not my kind of shooting style at night. But it worked.

It started to snow again yesterday night in Rome, and for a moment, a deep silence fell on the city

I have been bothered by many of the b&w pics posted from the X100 (and also my quick and dirty conversions to see how it looks). Many of the b&w pictures look like Delta 100 film on acid: high contrast blinding whites and shadows that just drop to black and very low mid-tone separation. I am wondering if this is how users like their b&w to look? Coming from years of medium format b&w I find the look kind of jarring.

I didn't have Sliver Efex on me when I tried a couple of conversions but it seemed that this high contrast look was hard for me to try to get rid of. In comparison, straight Canon 1Ds conversions (using Zeiss lenses) look a bit more subdued with more mid-tone body, if I can call it that.

I'm sorry to be talking-out-loud but I was just wondering if anybody else has noticed this re: the peculiar contrasty look of b&w out of the X100? I'll play around in Silver Efex, though, to see how I can get the b&w to look more 'earthy' for my old-timer self. Thnx everyone.

Maggie, I really like your cat pics, well above the usual. The shot of Amelia and Michael is really sweet, both surely purring! "On the hunt" is well-caught apparently in tight circumstances; one can imagine a story there.

Of our four, we also have one named Scooter because she orignally would run and hide if spotted; after 10+ years she is still semi-feral and untouchable, and has your Jackson's coloring plus white feet.

Thank you, Doug! Michael and Amelia just absolutely adore each other, and yes, there was lots of purring!

Your Scooter sounds like a pretty cool cat- untouchable ferals have a "wild charisma" that kinda makes up for them keeping they're distance. Jackson's got a bit of it left in him; he was found on top of his dead mother in an abandoned, alleyway garage when he was about six weeks old and even though he's very affectionate and snuggly with us, he still gets that wild look in his eye and you can hear Michael scold him with a cry of, "No bite, Mister President!!!"

Filters? No filters on my shots, except for the built-in ND on some of the daylight snow shots.

Shots from last summer's trip to Newburyport, MA.

They are down-sampled JPEGs, so the RAW files are better. It just gives you an idea what the X100 is capable of. I'm quite pleased. I have an X Pro 1 on order with a 35mm F/1.4 too.
