Can't say enough about how much I enjoy your work.

wonderful shots Michael as usual. May I ask what aperture you usually shot at? Not often f1.4 I suppose? I didnt see a lot of bokeh in most of your street shots. Also your exposures are always dead right. Are you using handheld meter?

Hi and thanks a lot. I usually use 100 ISO film, so my lens is pretty open but I usually try to stay somewhere around 2.8, but I do shoot at 1.4 if I need to, or if I decide that I want a photo to look a certain way. I use the meter in m6ttl and if something doesn't seem right, then I just adjust it to what I think it should be. I usually carry a Sekonic L-358 meter with me on trips, but I forgot it on this trip to India so I had to make do with guessing.

cheers, michael

Thank you Michael for sharing your secrets! I also have M6TTL. Do you think buying a Seconic is a good idea or you are satisfied with M6 metering?

Thanks again, I am happy to share. Personally, I think carrying a light meter has many advantages to it, it helped me "learn" a lot about light in tricky situations over the years. Honestly, my Sekonic does not weigh a lot, it does not take up a lot of space, and if I attach it to my waist during a day of shooting, I hardly even notice it.

I think a more important question for anyone that is debating about whether to get a meter or not is, "do you need one?", and "are your photos exposed properly?"

I have a light meter app on my phone that is pretty accurate, but it is too slow and I prefer to use my meter over the app on my phone.

I trust and use the meter in my M6ttl most of the time, I only use my Sekonic when I have doubts.

Leica Rangefinder by Narsuitus, on Flickr

Despite what the EXIF data states, this image was taken with a Zeiss 35mm f/1.4 Distagon ZM.

Since my Zeiss 35mm f/1.4 Distagon is not coded, I manually input the Summulux 35mm f/1.4 code into my Leica M10. However, I was informed by Zeiss that I should have used the Summicron 28mm code.

Varanasi....I was wearing a bandana around my neck because the smoke of the dead bodies at the Ghats were making my throat sore. I usually wear a bandana on my wrist when I travel to cover up my Rolex. I took this photo at a little barber shop that I walked by.

Michael, that dog photo is fantastic! I was scrolling down the page, saw the image scroll, thought 'oh that's neat, the people sleeping', then completed the scroll seeing the whole image with the dog there too!
Outstanding composition.

p.s the others are very nice too.
