Wordwide Civil Unrest - Photos Only

Arab Spring, Tea Party, UK Riots, Occupy Wall Street... The last several years have seen more civil unrest and people "taking to the streets" than any time since the 60's Vietnam protests and the civil rights movement (at least in the US). This thread is a photos only (as in NO comments - especially political) devoted to to the topic of "people taking to the streets". Please feel free to contribute. If you do, please include what the protest is, where it was, and the date. This thread will be started using reposted photos from the closed Occupy Wall Street thread.

Occupy Wall Street - Philadelphia, PA - October 6, 2011

More forthcoming...

Not from the Occupy movement, but here in Puerto Rico we had a student strike the first few months of this year over a proposed (and later implemented) fee that almost doubled the cost of studying the state university.

Thanks for coming back with this Nick. Everyone, please do post your photos. I will move the thread to the w/nw forum. This can be a powerful thread. The photos will do the talking.

You're welcome, rover... my pleasure. I think it can be a powerful thread, given that this is forum is well-represented internationally. I will post the rest from the other thread tomorrow afternoon. I copied the image URLs to a text file and added the image tags to each to make things easier so I could just cut-n-past them into the thread... then forgot to email the file to myself to continue when I got home...(Doh!) rest will have to wait until tomorrow.

I'm thrilled that PollitowuzHere posted some excellent stuff not from OWS, but from a student strike in Puerto Rico! Keep'em rollin'!

From the same days of the strike. The injury was caused when police officers started throwing rocks at the students.

This is from a march that was organized the previous year, approximately in October-November.

Thanks. I'll admit it's a bit hairy working near riot police, specially when all hells breaks loose and they start chasing people waving batons and spraying pepper spray.

I have lots of photographs from demonstrations and you can see some of them from my RFF Gallery. I have been taking photographs at demonstrations take place in Istanbul since 2005. Some of photographs are below. These are taken at anti-war demonstrations.

Great stuff being posted here. Thank! I have some more from the original OWS thread I will repost. In the meantime, here are some I took today (Oct. 15, 2011) at OWS/Philly now that the tents are up...

What demonstration is complete without a library/civil disobedience training center?

Not sure who he was but he was giving a lecture on a civil disobedience related topic to about 30 people

Make-shift sign shop...

There was a crowd facing the traffic holding signs... cars were all beeping in support. This is a popular movement!
