On my two OM-2ns, I keep a 28/2 and an 85/2. Both have hoods and lens caps, but the caps don't work with the hoods, so I have to take off the lens caps and screw on the hoods in order to take pictures. This is less than good.

So off to B&H, and two Olympus lens caps found that fit on the hoods:

For the 85mm/f2 hood - a simple push fit success.

For the 28mm/f2 hood - this one took an Exacto knife to shave away some plastic but now fits nicely.

I had to wait a couple of weeks as these are not always in stock, but what's two weeks in the life of a camera that will last a few decades more?

Found a price catalog from the mid-90's.
Notice how expensive the (today) cheapo 50 f/1.8 was !

Cool

Wasn't even planning on it, but I was at the pawnbrokers and I got a mint condition 28mm f2.8 for a steal.... Then I saw a cheap 100mm f2.8, and now I have an Om-4 en route to use them on with a 50mm f1.8.... might be time to retire the Nikon FE.

Been a member here for a while and am just discovering this thread, D'oh! My first camera was an OM-1n. After it was stolen, I added 2 OM-2's and a 4ti with a dozen lenses or so. My favorite OM moment was meeting a guy at Narita airport shooting an original M1. Anyway here's a picture.

Really great images. Giving me a hankering for an OM3 and a Zuiko.
Have had my eye on a 40/2 for the past few weeks.

I am not sure why it has bad reputation. In terms of performance it is as good as the cheapo (and well regarded) Canon EF 50 1.8

I had plenty of free time today, shot the same subject with three lenses.

Here are the results

I am about a week away from putting a roll of film through this very neglected camera which has always been my favourite by a large margin. It's been five years ... five years too long!

That's actually a Leica M case with some packing in the bottom because the Oly is actually a smaller camera. Fits well.

When I dragged this beauty out of storage I had a friend here who is a very good photographer and currently uses a Canon 5Dlll. I told her to have a look through the viewfinder which she did and I could see the amazement on her face. That finder does that to everyone when they first look through it ... even more so with the 1.2 lens on it!

I love this camera!

Yes having looked through hundreds of viewfinders, the brightness of the om1/2 still amazes me!

My OM has daily been a repro system with Bellow and makro Lens. However after getting another OM 1 with a 80/2 I started looking for Lenses and now have a few from 17 to 1000.
My Old OM1 had a Prism problem a few years ago and did get a CLA and now is like new. With the Lenses there have been a few Bodys too. The macro tube and the 135 macro Lens is a good combo in the fields.

Hi,

The foam around the prisms fails badly, imo, but a good source of the same prism is the OM10. OM10's are dirt cheap if sold as duds and, who knows, you might even end up liking them.

New prisms sometimes turn up on ebay, I've seen one or two.

MC vs. earlier coatings?

I've read through 50+ pages of this thread and found it profoundly entertaining and informative, especially since I have never used any kind of Olympus gear before. However, I must jump in now because I'm considering the local purchase of a small collection of OM lenses. I must disclose that 95% percent of my work involves both small- and full-frame Sony video cameras, with a rig considerably bulkier and heavier than a 35mm SLR or A7, etc., and so I'm attracted to the optical quality of Olympus lenses and their compact size and light weight. I've been informed that for the 50mm F1.4 I should aim for a serial number over 1.1 million. One question I have is, how important is it to look for MC versus earlier versions of the same lens? Should I pay significantly more, say 10 to 20 percent more, for a lens with the latest multi-coating?

Others might correct me but in my experience there are Zuiko lenses that perform much better on film than on digital (almost to the point of disappointment) - the 35 f/2 being one of them.

I used quite a few 50 1.4 but none multicoated so i can't tell. On my digital EOS they are good lenses but I prefer their rentering on film much better.
