Taken with a Zenobia 645 folder.
This house had been burned, gutted from the inside and abandoned.

Located on Whiskey Island at the mouth of the Cuyahoga River.
Built in 1941 as the first of many like it along the Great Lakes but WWII intervened and this remains the only one of it's kind.

I believe that careful framing and a little creativity can imbue buildings with a feeling of character. Or at least it is fun trying :^)

PS If your photos of buildings do not reveal enough character then recall the words of Robert Capa - "If your photos are not interesting, you are not close enough!" I have always felt these words to be true and have somewhat adopted them as a mantra.

One of the outbuildings at Quamby Estate, near Hagley in Tasmania.

Quamby was one of the early big estates (around 30,000 acres at one point) in the north of the colony, founded in the 1830's by Irish convict/political prisoner Richard Dry. The original property was a land grant from the colonial administration, and legend has it that the Governor made a bet that the Dry's could have whatever land the matriarch of the family, Anne, could ride around in a day. She hid horses around the valley and as it happens, managed to ride quite a long way... The Dry's first son, Sir Richard, would become the first native-born premier of Tasmania, and the first Tasmanian to be knighted.

Nowadays, Quamby only owns a few hundred acres, the rest having been sold mainly to commercial agricultural operations. It's a nice place for a wedding or a game of golf, and also happens to be my office
